Mention the 'Bride' word and the $$ signs go up!!

Is it just me or do you find that as soon as you mention the word Bride or wedding people want to charge you more??

I stopped by an Aveda store today to inquire about getting my make up done by one of their conultants ...well first off I said I was attending a wedding and would like someone to apply my make up and the girl at the counter said 'Oh the girl here is great and she will do a wonderful job on your make-up' and it will be $45.

Then I mentioned that I would need make up done a week later for my own wedding and she said 'Oh the same girl will do it but it will be $120'!!!!
I politely asked her would she be lining my eyes with diamond for that price....I mean come up I wasn't asking for drastic changes the day of my wedding...just the same normal make up that any person would want applied.....
She could not give me a valid reason as to why the price was diffrent....just looked at me like a deer in headlights......
Seems like 'brides' are getting ripped off for no reason.....

YES YES YES!

I noticed it more, now that my wedding is over. I am planning a big surprise 30th BDAY party for my DH. Once a vendor goes into his spiel, I just say...'I already got married. I don't need the 'bridal' treatment. What's the best price you can give me?'

Suddenly, the prices become much lower!

That is so true, i read this book called fire your wedding planner, it by stephi stewart and she talks about all the mark ups that goes on because you mention wedding, and gives you advise on what you should do in certain situations dealing with vendors and you should always negotiate to get a better price or ask to speak to the manager.

That's why it's a billion dollar industry. It's an emotional event and people are willing to spend a fortune to make the day 'perfect'. Same as funerals - very emotional and people are willing to spend big bucks.

OMG I AGREE!!!

I have always felt that beauty and fashion industries prey upon the vulnerabilities of brides. I NEVER saw any application of make up that was worth spending more than $50 bucks on much less moer than $100. I know every bride wants to be a the most beautiful woman in the world on that day, but can anyone honestly tell me that there is a marked difference between a make up application that cost $45 versus one that costs $100. JMO.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! they jack up the rates because they know they'll get it!

that's why everything is negotiable ladies. I chewed my photographer down $500! I chewed the hall down $7 PP! And I just started

Absolutely! VERY good advice.
DH and I didn't pay 'wedding' price for anything. We negotiated and spoke to managers for every aspect. We saved a ton!

SO TRUE! We're renewing our vows this summer and I've had to be so careful to never mention the word wedding or vows. I had to tell the hall it's an anniversary party to stay out of the wedding arena because I knew we were going to get ripped off otherwise. DJ too because the wedding package is $600 more than the party package-go figure. It's a shame.

That is hysterical!!!! You don't know it until you become one, but the word bride really means 20% markup. The makeup artist I used for my wedding does not do this, which is just one of the many reasons I loved her!

We get taken advantage of because of the 'Bride to be status.
