Menu concerns...sorry long

Menu concerns...sorry long

So I wanted to do something outside of the box so we decided on a BBQ menu. That was fine, still have no issue with that. So here's the dilemma...originally we were not going to have a cocktail hour so the whole reception would have been 4 hours long. We have now decided to add the hour, for which they are charging us an extra $8pp. So now I am looking at the options...it would cost us $1 less pp to have the traditional formal sit-down 5 hour wedding than it is costing us to have our 'formal BBQ' which will be served buffet style with an hour open bar with passed hours-devours only as our 'cocktail hour'. We are meeting with the venue next week to finalize the menu. I feel like we are getting way less food since we are still not getting any of the cocktail hour food, plus a few minor things are missing from the dinner. We are planning on bringing up our concerns to her and telling her we want ABC at the cocktail hour and this and that added to the dinner but stick with the BBQ food or else we will switch completely to the 'regular' wedding menu. What is your opinion? TIA

i agree with your thikning. its a great idea to do bbq....but if it winds up costing you more for less. well that is not cool!

I personally HATE bbq food.. like I do not eat anything with bbq sauce on it, the only thing I do eat is burgers, and they have to be dead.. like extra super mega well done.

so i would want the option of something else to eat.

also, bbq tends to be a little messy (imo)..
could you do a bbq station in your CH?

again, this is just my opinion. sorry if it offends.

totally agree with above .... also, i think a sit-down dinner is a lot nicer than buffet.

i'd see if they could do a 'traditional' wedding but with a few bbq twists somewhere

I think its a valid point but i would say the amount of people that share your hate are limited... but it could be messy for everyone...

I agree with Ang...she wasn't asking your opinion on BBQ food, she was asking about the amount of food versus the cost.

Thanks for the input girls. I really feel like if they don't add in a lot more food we will wind up changing to the traditional menu....which would make me sad.

On another note...Be nice girls....everyone is entitled to their opinions and I am not easily offended. FYI...It is very fancy BBQ food...not hot dogs and ribs! there really is nothing that is messy at all. It is a very traditional 'menu' that is just going to be BBQ instead of cooked in the kitchen.

I dont understand why you would be missing out on the amount of food- I like the BBQ idea even though I dont eat traditional BBQ stuff (ie ribs and shizz. I like burgers and shrimp and chicken on bbq) Plus you can do what would maybe be a firrst on LIW - monogramed bibs- like in a a basket like the flip flop / slipper baskets...

ITA, bibs would be cool and it's a summer wedding. e.g. there are many brides having a clam bake wedding it's Long Island. The main thing is getting the most for your money. I ssure they will work with you.

This is the thing...we originally had a 4 hour reception with the BBQ food (buffet style) and 1 hour of passed horse-devours. Now we are adding a 'cocktail hour' but they are going to charge us $8 pp just to keep the bar open so that means that the only food served at cocktail hour is the passed horse-devours. So we would be missing all the stations. Plus there are a few things that during dinner we wouldn't get either, such as salad. It just seems like we are paying more for way less food. But I the idea of monogrammed bibs!! Now I may have to add some messy food just so I can have them!

That's not cool. Look at all the menus and pick out differnt things. They should help you have a beautiful day. Oh, you can have monogramed wet ones. Everyone will love that.

Yes...that's the plan. We are going to tell her we want to change certain things and see what she says. My opinion is that we should have the same amount of food for the same price. Plus, if it is buffet and not a sit down dinner that means way less servers so that would cost them less! I don't know...just annoyed right now.

Relax, you are going to get what you want. They don't want an unhappy bride.

i agree with you more $ for less food is not cool. See if you can make it work with a little bit of both

I def agree with the above posters that you should voice your concerns about price to food ratio.

I do believe though that buffet is actually more expensive than sit down because people can get up more than once and get more food. Can you ask for sit down BBQ to reduce the cost? That way they know everyone's portions?

(and I love the idea of personalized wet naps btw )

Re: Menu concerns...sorry long

They ma be charging you more for BBQ because they probably ned to rent the grills.

I recently went to a wedding in Virginia that was buffet style with a very light cocktail hour (cheese/crackers station) and passed appetizers. I must say although there was less food than at a traditional LI wedding it was sufficient, especially because they allowed guests to get seconds at the buffet during dinner.
