met with priest w/ vow question

met with priest w/ vow question

We met with the priest today - it went great! Thank GOODNESS I WENT . . . the other priest that left. . .well i guess he took our stuff with him? lol NONE of our paperwork was there NONE OF IT. . .the only evidence of my existence was the word WEDDING ( no time or name ) written on January 12th! The priest had NO idea how we were even mailed the letter for precana!

Anyway SO my wedding will be 01/12/08 at 3PM! We are having a ceremony not a mass ( FH won that one!)

Our rehearsal dinner is January 4th 2008 - a Friday at 6PM so now we can plan our dinner!

so now i have to choose out of the book:
an opening prayer
first readin
second reading
gospel
vows
closing prayer

Okay for the vows - we can either say them ourselves OR the priest ASKS us 'DO you, Anthony, take Matilde to be. . .' and then you say I DO!

I always pictured myself saying I DO at my wedding. . . but is it nicer to say the entire vow on our own? I mean i think it is more personal if we each say it but then we cant say I DO

lol what a stupid problem. . . . what do you girls think?

Re: met with priest w/ vow question

I never realized this before I read your question, but I don't think I have personally ever been to a wedding where the bride and groom simply answered 'I do'?? I know that's how they do it in all the movies, but come to think of it I think all the weddings I've been to the bride and groom recited the vows. That doesn't really answer your question, but I think you should do it however you'd like....You have time to think about that anyway, no?

hmmm....I think I will stick with the I do. I always imagined saying that and I think it would be pulling teeth to get FH to write them! But honestly, talk to your FH and get his opinion.

You can make your own vows and then the preist can ask something like 'do you pledge you love to FH' etc.... and then say I DO

hmm i thought the priest will tell you what to say, like 'repeat after me, I matilde take thee anthony' and then you repeat him ... and then at the end you say I do? I honestly never thought about it, that now im confused haha

WOW TILDE!! THey didnt have your name in the book?? thank goodness you went!!!

ok.. I have always dreamed of saying 'I DO' so for me I would def go with that. butlike Jack808 said... i have yet to be at a wedding in which they did that., in fact there was several times i was like.. did they say it? its over? that was it? haha because you see it on TV so often and less frequently in realy life

anyway so my vote would be for the I DO!

we're having the same discussion... i always pictured myself saying I DO and i really want to.
Maybe you can have your own vows read by the priest before he starts that section?
it seems like the best of both worlds

lol i am so glad i am not the only one with the 'i do' question LMAO

i am thinking back and honestly - no on has said I DO that i can remember. . . they struggle through the vows

I tried to get FH to practice yesterday but he was so tired LOL he was so annoyed he kept telling me that if we said the vows we would be married and we could cancel the whole wedding

It's funny, cuz i kinda feel that way too...when I was a rehearsal a couple of years ago the priest made them say the vows and the bride started crying! she kept looking back at me with these eye (like she couldn't contain herself) and she didnt want to say them...i felt so bad for her, but I would only want to say on the day of the wedding too - that's when they have meaning, you know? or is that crazy?

anyway...i think you should do what you want, but I've always pictured myself saying the vows - and crying of course, it's bound to happen.

ps...why do i feel so behind with my church stuff. we just did FOCCUS about a month ago and we cant do pre cana until we meet with someone about foccus, and THEN we can meet with the priest to talk about our ceremony. how long is too long to wait to set up a meeting with him?

I wish we can say our vows. (GO church doesnt do vows)...but I do like the I DO part.

I told FH that we are writing each other vows and exchanging them in the limo...just to each other..
Maybe you can not do the vows..just do the 'i do'
and then exchange vows with each other.????

Just an idea.
