I met with Vinny who I originally met at a showcase at the Woodlands. It was a nice experience and since have seen their work at weddings, we knew what they are capable of. We got to watch a small portion of Vic Latino's wedding......they did such a great job!
I havent made that final decision yet but it looks like they are the DJ I am going with.

Re: Met w/Starlight Express last nite
Actually, they are the same price as Tommy's Tunes. I'm debating between Tommy's and Starlight. Unfortunately, I haven't seen Tommy's perform and they are not doing any more showcases this year and neither is Starlight. I wish I had known this about DJs or I would have started with them over Photographers. In any case, Starlight really did get the crowd excited and I was up there dancing with the MCs. We want to see one of the cheaper DJs to compare quality, but Starlight is a def. A+ for me.

Really? They were the same price?? What were you looking for? DJ and MC?? I thought Tommy Tunes was supposed to be cheaper.
Were you getting lights too??
Thanks Kathleen

When I worked with JT they are their house DJ and they were great at every wedding I ever saw them do. A friend of mine used to be one of their DJs too. They really do an awesome job. Unfortunetly we wont use them because my brother is having them in June and without planning it we have managed to get most of the same vendors so we deceided to give up Starlight Express so that we dont look like we copied their whole wedding.

Re: Met w/Starlight Express last nite
My sister uses starlight express for her 2003 wedding.
Pros: They had everyone up dancing the whole night
Cons: They really didn't listen to a word my sister told them. They ignore the do not play list. My sister said no conga lines and not only did they have one, but the MC got up in everyone's face to join... it was really bad...he kept coming to my table b/c a few BM's were at it, and he was like 'come on table 3' or whatever...eventaully we took the table number off of our table. And he kept harassing me (I don't use this word lightly) specifically to get up and dance b/c I'm MOH. He really made a public spectacel out fo everything. Anytime there was a alull in dancing he'd call up the rbidal party, and really be embarassing and come over to me..it was really awful. I didn't get to eat.
Anyway, they were the first vendor of my sister's that i put on my 'do not use' list.
I'm sure you can work it out with them, just be really clear on what you want... they seem to be a more in your face, MC, lightshow DJ copany than an elegant subdued company, so if you're going for party party party, they'd be great.

Re: Met w/Starlight Express last nite
Starlight Express was the company we used for my prom (in 1995 at JT!). I was on the committee that picked them and thought they were great. We are definitely going to check them out.
Kathleen, thanks for the FM! I appreciate it!

I would need their DELUXE ENTERTAINMENT PACKAGE which is MC plus DJ for 4 hours. No lights because I am a daytime wedding and you won't see it. They said $1795, which is what we were quoted at Starlight, but they throw in a tech guy as backup.

Re: Met w/Starlight Express last nite
Since you're not using lights, maybe they cna give you a lower price. $1795 is aLOT just for a DJ and MC. I've been quoted $1000 for that at other companies

Yeah, that's why we're going to look at some of the cheaper places. If I went with Tommys or Starlight it would be because of their reputation, but a lot of other places are getting some good reviews. Honestly, as long as the DJ obeys by my 'do not play' list and keeps the crowd into the music, we'll all have a good time. I went over my budget in photo/video so I need to pull back on my DJ budget. I'm going to make a bunch more appointments for Friday. STRESS!
