So FH and I are thinking about Excellence in mexico, but the beach is very very impotant to me. I want a beach where we can take a walk and lay out and be served cocktails and water we can swim in. We also want an all inclusive and want luxury. I want to be treated like a queen darn it!! People keep suggesting Aventura, but I have read sooo many times that they don't have a real beach. Does anyone know anything about Secrets Capri? It doesn't look as nice as excellence in pictures, but it doesn't look like we'd be slumming it either. So Ill list our needs and let me know if anyone has any suggestions.
Great beach All inclusive Good food beach service pool service great pool in room jacuzzi great service all around No wristbands!

Thank you!!!!
I'm in the same boat as you...You will get everything you mentioned at either Secrets, Excellence, RH, or EDR, but there is no guarantee on the beach. I need to look into Adventura though.

Just curious- what do you mean there is no guarantee on the beach? Is that because of the hurricanes we just had??

Hurrican Wilma really destroyed the beaches there and the reviews are hit or miss.

Re: mexican riviera honeymoon help!
I originally booked Excellence (its no longer a Secrets property). Because of some scetchy reviews on Trip Advisor I changed resorts and we are now booked at Royal Hideaway. It's was a little more $$$ but for peace of mind it's worth it. I am sure Excellence is wonderful but I really didn't want to take any chances on the HM.
I will be honest Excellence's beach took a really bad hit from hurricane Wilma. From what I understand it might have been hit worse than the other resorts. Lots and lots of seaweed and the water is a bit cloudy. Because the pools there are so incredible it wasn't such a big issue for me.
If the beach is really important to you, you might want to check our Royal Hideaway, Capri, Azul Resorts and Adventura/Spa Palace and if you don't insist on having an all inclusive plan the Mandarin Oriental just opened up a gorgeous new property in Riv Maya.

Re: mexican riviera honeymoon help!
Do you know if Royal Hideaway has much of a night life. FH is more into that then I am- he can be an all nighter kinda guy
so we not only want great beaches-service-jacuzzi and all inclusive- but nice night life. And the only reason I was thinking the Excellence Rivera was because it isnt too far from Cancun. But is Royal Hideaway that far from Cancun?

Excellence, Royal Hideaway, Adventura Palace, Secrets Capri ect are all in Riviera Maya and are basically the same distance from Cancun (roughly 45 min to an hour). My guess is that the night life is ok in Riviera Maya but not the kind of night life you get in Cancun. What we are doing is spending 8 days at Royal Hideaway and then going over the the Ritz Carlton Cancun for 4 days just to mix it up a bit

Re: mexican riviera honeymoon help!
I just got back from Cancun, and Playa del Carmen. The beaches in Cancun are actually bigger now, than they were pre-Hurricane Wilma. If you are looking into Cancun, check out the 'new' ME Cancun (formerely the Melia Turquesa). Or, if you are looking at PDC, definitely go with the Royal Hideway. One of my FH's groomsman is a conceirge there at the RH. PDC is very nice, but, not as big, or, nightlife oriented as Cancun....

That is a great idea. I have time until my 2009 wedding. But it never hurts to get ideas early. I will have to mention this to FH! Thanks

Re: mexican riviera honeymoon help!
Royal Hideaway is beautiful. Wonderful food with a good selection of restaurants (italian/sushi/etc.) The pools are beautiul and it feels very luxuorius (they have the beds on the beach and teak lounge chairs w fabric pads) The ocean view is awesome but when i was there 2 years ago the beaches were hurt by the huricane and they had sand bags all around to help stop the sand from washing away (you still had sand to lay ur chair on but it was kinda up and away from the water a bit) Royal hideaway is clusters of villas with like 8 rooms in each villa so you are not in a high rise hotel, i think its nicer this way. But... there isnt really any night life and not so many young people. Its more of a relaxing vacation, not a party spot although and fh loved it there. Hope this helps!

Re: mexican riviera honeymoon help!
We just got back from Aventura and loved it! It meets all your criteria but 2 - wristbands and the beach.
At Aventura there isn't a real beach. There's a man-made sandy area leading down into lagoons. There are rock walls separating the lagoon from the ocean. Personally that didn't bother me at all - I'm not a huge beachy person and we could have visited one of the sister hotels in the area that did have a beach.
The food there was amazing, service was amazing as well.
There is some nightlife - they have a Thai lounge that serves martinis and is more mellow, and there is a disco that's open until 2am every night.
Also, it's adults only - that was a big thing for us.

Re: mexican riviera honeymoon help!
We went to Secrets Excellence in Riviera Maya and absolutley loved it. Everything you mentioned that you want u will definitley get there except the beach. The only thing with the beach is that there is a ton of seaweed and the water isn't as clear as it was at other islands we have been too. The resort is amazing, the food, the service you definitley can't beat but if the beach is ur main thing then I would look at other places.
