So we have had such a hard time figuring out what we want for our honeymoon. We thought we narrowed it down to Secrets Maroma Beach in the Riviera Maya in Mexico, but whenever I mention it to anyone- they say 'Don't go to Mexico, it's not safe!' Is it really that bad there? It made me nervous because we want to do excursions and things, but so many people that have gone to Mexico have bad things to say. Ladies???? Any other suggestions?? (Looking for all inclusive)

I personally would not go to Mexico and I use to go there all the time. It’s used to be my father’s favorite beach vacation spot. It’s a beautiful country and it’s a shame what’s going on there. It’s still on US do not travel list so my family and I don't feel comfortable going there anymore. I’m sure you would be fine going there because you would be in the tourist areas but being on a list that also has Iraq and Afghanistan on it kinda freaks me out. If you do decide to go there I suggest going to Cabo since it’s separate from the rest of the country and just be cautious.
the only unsafe part of the tourist locations is Acapulco..all other tourists are ok..the Rivera Maya is fine ..we were there last august ..as long as your not doing anything crazy you will be fine.

We went to Cancun last year and I felt completely safe, but then again, we only left the resort once - and that was to walk across the street to an Outback Steakhouse to watch a NYR playoff game
I think as long as you stay at your resort and only go to these main excursions like xel-ha, xcaret, the ruins, etc. you would be fine. I certainly wouldn't rent a car and start driving around but that's just my opinion, things could have changed in the last year since we've been there.
There are Secrets resorts in Cabo too, the Marquis (all rooms have an ocean view!) and the new Puerto Los Cabos thats opening up at the end of this year. Although I hear Maroma Beach is the best one!

I wouldn't listen to anything bad about Mexico. to me it seems most people who say omg it's dangerous are people who have never even been there. my aunt & uncle go every year with my cousins and never had any problems. they even own a timeshare there they gave us.
we're going to PDC for our honeymoon, grand velas. secrets maroma was our other choice when we were deciding. it has an amazing beach.
we're also going to Le Blanc in Cancun in September for my 30th birthday (off season but oh well). another place really great for honeymoons. have no fears about going because I'm sure it'll be fine. obviously just don't go wandering out of the resort late at night etc.

Mexico???
We went to Cancun for our honeymoon; we stayed at Paradisus. And it was fun. We had a great time. We used their public transportation to get around and it was very safe. One night we went to the club and was out around 2am. We never felt unsafe. We stayed in the hotel zone which for the most part is usually safe. We really have nothing bad to say about our trip. We would definitely go back.
