Mexico HoneyMoon: To Do or Not to Do

Hi Ladies,

FH and I are both not sure what to do. We are staying by the Riveria Maya - so we pretty sure we are not in harms way. My only concern, what if things get really bad. I've been following the news and we seem to be in the clear...but you never know.

what to do...?

Dear Travel Industry Colleague,

Once again, we find ourselves in the middle of a media storm that threatens consumer confidence and our business. The revised Mexico Travel Alert issued by the U.S. Department of State was updated on February 20, 2009 and is designed to inform travelers of the issues and common sense precautions to “ensure that travel to Mexico is safe and enjoyable”.. We do not take this alert lightly, nor think it’s unwarranted, but it needs to be taken in the proper perspective.

The media has painted the country of Mexico with one brush, when in fact the drug related violence that triggered the update is centered in border towns hundreds of miles from the tourist destinations frequented by our customers. We agree with the position taken by the Mexico Tourism Board that “Mexico remains a safe tourist destination.”

As a leading travel provider to Mexico, Funjet Vacations will provide you with accurate information in order to productively communicate with your clients and members of your local media. We ask that you exercise your influence and position of being the most knowledgeable travel resource in your community and contact your local media if you discover they are misinterpreting the current situation. We encourage you to read through the information we’re providing to address your clients’ concerns with clear and correct responses. Please take the time to review our Question & Answer sheet that addresses travel safety and the current issues in the Mexico border towns. We’ll also be using our 24/7 travel agent resource center, FunjetAgentAdvantage.com, to post updated Mexico Travel Alerts and facts, as well as Mexico deals and offers.

We’re committed to our customer’s vacation experience and their safety is a cornerstone of our company’s values. Funjet encourages people to use common sense when traveling anywhere, not just Mexico. We offer customers peace of mind and care throughout their vacation with our 24/7 customer support desk and in-destination customer care via our Mexico ground handlers including Lomas Travel, Trafictours and EPIC.

In 2008, 18.34 million U.S. visitors traveled to Mexico and came home with experiences that only Mexico can offer. We realize that the destination is an extremely large portion of your business and livelihood. We will work with you to maintain this business and rely on you to help us communicate that Mexico continues to be an amazing, safe, fun and affordable place to go on vacation.

Don’t hesitate to contact your Funjet sales representative with any questions regarding the recent Mexico Travel Alert, Funjet’s response to the current media, or with feedback you’re receiving from clients or prospective clients.

Thank you for educating your clients and local media on the facts behind the recent issues and for being an advocate of Funjet Vacations and leisure travel to Mexico.

Regards,

I think you are fine. We are still going to EPM in october. a few of my girlfriends just went to Cancun for spring break, one of the supposedly danger areas right now and they said everything was completely fine. they felt totally safe.
