Wow! Adriaandsteve- i think thayour post is a little rude. People are allowed to have their own opinions about Mexico and if they dont think that its safe then what is the big deal? The violence has increased dramatically in the past year and even though it is mainly in the border that doesnt mean that there arent any other outbreaks anywhere else. But to say that you cant stand when people say that Mexico isnt safe bc the media is reporting it is rude. These boards are used to get opinions from everybody- not just you. And even though it is your opinion that it is safe- that doesnt mean its true.

Re: Mexico Vaca... vent
First off let me start by saying I am not going to Mexico
No not b/c of violence b/c FH and I never considered it. For no reason other than it wasn't for us. Much like a dress we all have diffrent taste.
Now ladies I felt the need to say this b/c it's little things like this going on that have discouraged me from posting more to this board. Before I proceed I will say a prayer that those ultra sensitive types do not get offended.
For those FB's who are going to MX Yayyyyy....It is your life and your choice to do what you please for yourself and FH. It is not your job to tell other brides who have cancelled or plan to cancel that they annoy you or slept during Geography
They are entitled to the same rights as you and you have no right to make them feel like they made a bad choice for themselves. You can give opinions b/c in case anyone forgot that is the purpose of this board 'Brides helping Brides'
Now for all the Con Mx Hm'ers quit smiling b/c some of you are wrong also.
First off Yayyy for you all for making a choice that makes you and FH feel safe and comfortable
Second please let's try to be considerate of those brides who choose to keep a MX honeymoon. Imagine how you would feel if everytime you turned around someone was saying bads things about your HM. Thanks OXOXO!!
Let us state the facts without getting too offended b/c last time I checked we lived in a democracy that gives us the right to freedom of press & speech!! Most of the brides comments I read weren't trying to be mean but genuinely trying to help.
Mexico Brides-Enjoy your beautiful HM and post pics on your way back!
Con Mexico HM'ers enjoy your HM also and post pics too!! Now can we all get back to planning the wedding of our dreams???
Now I'm sorry for the long post but I felt like I had to be peacemaker btwn the 2 sides. Wish me luck for my safety.. I'm on my way into the city for a date with FH

I'm sorry you witnessed that...and you're right, at any time and anywhere you risk the chance of losing your life, but I think the chances of you getting hurt in Mexico right now are much greater. I'm not an expert, but if the statistics are reporting 6,300 deaths from the Drug Lords alone in 2008 and 1,00 in the month of January, then to me, and again - my personal opinion, I would chose not to go, nor would I tell anyone to go..
Maybe I'm wrong and it's one of the safest places in the world, but I can't take that chance and I wouldn't tell anyone to take that chance.
I'm really not trying to hurt anyone on this site and I'm not telling anyone to go where their lives are in danger, so I'm really not sure why there was a negative response to my message.
Yes unfortunately A LOT of people are dying by the borders and i would never ever advise someone to go there cuz it's def dangerous over there.
I just think it's important to keep in mind exactly where these killings are happening.
IMHO if things were really bad by the resorts the Mexican gov't would never allow it because most of their income comes from tourism and it would kill their economy if they did nothing.
I have no problem with people not going because of their personal safety.. that's everyone's decision. Just keep in mind that where all the killings are happening are not by the resorts (aside from the occasional unfortunate event). For ex. E. LA is BAD.. does that mean you shouldn't go to LA where the $ and tourism is?
So are you really telling us all we have NOTHING to worry about if we go to Mexico?? 7,300 murders happened only at the boarders? Someone said there are cops with guns standing guard at the resorts....WHY? If Mexico is so safe, then why are their guards at all the resort?. That's a little scary to me. Do you really feel strongly about telling us all not to worry about what is going on down there and that we should go? Would you send your own family on a plane right now to Mexico? I'm not telling anyone NOT to go, but I'm not going to urge anyone to go and tell them not to listen to the media. This is not the National Enquirer we are reading, these facts are coming from trustful sources.

I just got back from my honeymoon in Mexico and I had an amazing time. I was in the Riviera Maya and never once did my husband and I feel unsafe. We did tours outside the resort to Tulum and also visited Playa del Carmen on our own. Yes we saw a few police check points on the streets, but don't you see that here in NY too??

I think you could compare the situation in Mexico at the moment to the situation is Israel. I know many people who would not go to Israel at the moment, but then again my Rabbi is there right now.
People are going to go where they feel comfortable. Who are we to say whether it is or isn't safe? If you feel that you won't be safe there, don't go.
Personally I would not go to either Mexico or Israel at the moment, but then again I'm the sort of person who would worry about that sort of thing and I don't want to stress on my HM.
Girls...lets all remember that we are here on these boards to help each other plan the happiest day of our lives, not to bicker and argue!!

1. I, i no way shape or form, think it was rude of me to state my personal opinion and personal experiences.
2. If everyone else is free to state why they aren't going to mexico why am i not free to state why people SHOULD go to Mexico.
I'm fine with people having differences of opinion. MrsCastanedain09 had a diff of opinion which was fine, nothing bad was said from either end, and we ended up talking about something completely different helping one another out.
If people want to cancel their own HM's to Mexico thats fine and their own decision.
3. Would i put my family on a plane to Mexico right now? Yes 100%. My mom and i are actually looking to into going sometime next year to get stuff for my wedding.
4. I don't think that the girl who asked if NY was safter was trying to be sarcastic.. it was just a question. Is it better then it once was.. yes thankfully. But like my LA example.. things have always been bad in E. LA with gangs.. that doesn't stop people from going to LA as a vaca (the better areas obv).
I was just tired of hearing everyone say 'don't go' and giving all the reasons without providing some reasons TO go.
I think the girl who posted about Isreal was exactly right. Would i particularly go there right now.. no, but i also have no interest to go there ever really lol. But i know my sister is going in the summer for 2 weeks which is her decision.
5. Not all the resorts have guards with rifles there. Some do, some don't. All depends on the hotel management i guess.
But again.. none of this is new.

Did you think that my response was negative toward your message? Not my intention, just pointing out that we need to be aware no matter where we go.
No!!! Not you at all, I'm sorry. To the girl who was very sarcastic to me asking if I would stay away from Manhattan. There really is no need for it, we are talking about Mexico and there is a very serious situation going on over there, not Manhattan where the murder rate was under 100 people in the year 2008.
Thank you, AdriandSteve for clarifying it for me . ITA.
My point to WinterBride10: you said you would only go somewhere if it was 100% safe. I am merely pointing out that no where, especially where we live; it is not 100% safe. People had (and some continue to have) terrible opinions of Manhattan, so I used it as an example. It was not meant to be sarcastic just a comparison. Try not to take everything to heart.

Thanks for the post. I actually ended up not cancelling my trip in April after I realized that it is 'bad' no matter where you go. The media tends to exagerate a lot. Besides all tourist spots are pretty much safe. I have transportation from the airport to the hotel and DH and I are not ones to really leave the resort anyway.

You're right. I should have said 95% safe. I just don't tihnk anyone should be telling someone to go to Mexico if they don't know for sure that it is safe. This board is intented to HELP each other out and I just can't believe any of you would tell someone to go to a Country where there have been over 7,300 deaths from the drug lords alone in the past year. And then you all say you don't believe the media.
If you think it's safe then go, but you shouldn't put other people's lives in dangers and tell them to go somewehre where you don't truly know how safe it is.

Re: Mexico Vaca... vent
I agree. I wouldn't necessarily recommend going there now. But, the crime in Mexico is mostly by the border. Unfortunately, these drug cartels are creating a serious havoc at that spot. Mexico, however, is a large country. It is exactly what one girl said: Saying don't go to New York because there is gang violence in Detroit doesn't make sense. That can literally be the geographic difference of these places.
I certainly appreciate your position though. I would never want to intentionally put anyone in harm's way. I would say to anyone having doubts, see exactly where you are going in Mexico and when. If your honeymoon is a few weeks away and you will be travelling by the border - reconsider. If you are travelling to Cancun next year (hopefully I will be) then just let some time go by before you book. See if conditions improve.
Always be smart and be safe. Most of you are NY girls, you know how it is. Watch your bag, your passport. Don't let your drink out of your sight. And don't go anywhere alone.
I wish you all safe and happy travels!

thank you! There has been like 20 topics on 'Mexico HM :(' or 'Should I cancel my Mx HM?' in the past week alone. People should do what they are comfortable with but with so many people saying 'I would NOT go there right now it's so dangerous' kind bursts our bubble.
On that note, we are going in Oct to Excellence PM and have no intention of changing !

I have NO desire to start drama. I have never been to Mexico, but only because I don't travel much. I personally would go to Mexico, but that is my opinion.
However, I think your 'over 7,300 deaths' statistic is a bit misleading. That is in the entire country. You don't know how many of those deaths were 'innocent bystanders' vs people who were involved in the fight. It's like saying that the murder rate for the entire US must be indicative of the murder rate in Peoria, Illinois.
I'm not saying that you're wrong about the violence, just that when looking at statistics, the source and what they are talking about need to be taken into account.
Don't be mad

Re: Mexico Vaca... vent
Intersting statistic I just found...
Murders per capita (that's number of murders per 1,000 ppl): Jamaica is #3 on that list. Mexico is #5 on that list.
Why is no one telling people not to go to Jamaica????
FYI...US was #24 on the list...in case anyone cared...

Re: Mexico Vaca... vent
I have been following because I am going to Mexico for my honeymoon and I think some people are just coming off a little harsh so they are forced to feel defensive in this thread.
I am going to Mexico for my honeymoon and I am so excited and can not wait. But of course I am going to be a little nervous about going. But I am still going. I was nervous when I went to the DR, too. And even when I went to Puerto Rico. It's just that some people are out of their comfort zone and feel nervous esp. when the Dept of State most recently acknowledged risks of the security of people traveling to Mexico in February. It's not like this all came out of nowhere. Yes, this has been a long time problem in Mexico but you have to pay attention to the government when they say be careful if you are traveling to Mexico because it can be risky.
The government didn't say don't go to Mexico but they are saying just to be careful. If some people decide not to go, then that's their choice. I am still going despite it all but of course I am going to be cautious. But some people would rather just not deal with that and that's their choice so what's the big deal?
