Mexico water question

Is it safe to drink the water at a resort or are frozen drinks out of the question while we are there?

we drank bottled water, but had all the frozen drinks and the ice. We also brushed our teeth with the water. We were told that everything was safe on the resort

NOOOOOO. Please don't. I stayed at a hotel where they had signs all over that said their water is purfied.... BS, I was so sick. I thought I was going to die. Please, please be careful. I was the only one who drank the water from the tables. My friends used the water to brush their teeth and shower and they were ok.

Also be careful of what you eat too. Some of their pork is not the safest either.

I've been to Mexico twice and have not had a problem...and I had plenty of frozen drinks! Most resorts and restaurants (at least in Cancun) have filtration systems, so you should be okay. If you want a glass of water, though, make sure it is bottled water...better safe than sorry.

I been to Cancun 6x & drank frozen drinks galore and brushed teeth, etc. w/ their water & no problems. The only place we got sick was when we did a Burger King run at midnight one night...not a smart move.

I've also been to Acapulco & had no problems either in the resort area.

I have IBS and have been to mexico oh boy at least a dozen times cancun, puerto vallarta, playacar,playa del carmen, cozumel- all over and multiple times and NEVER had a problem- and I drank the water at the resorts- the only time I was cautious was outside the resort at restaurants- but at the resorts hell no- not worried at all!

went to cancun, got ill there, but i dont believe it was from the water... still dont know... You should be safe though, esp if you are in a reputable resort

We drank bottled water and the ice cubes were made from bottled water - that's what they told us. I did not get sick.

I just got back from a resort in Cancun on Monday. I did not drink tap water - only bottled water. I watched the ice cubes come from bags that were marked 'purified'. My stomach is STILL recovering as is FH's. They cook with water, they wash food with water, they do everything with water. Play it safe, bring IMMODIUM and PEPTO BISMOL. Watch the water and watch the meat. For some reason I'm thinking that Mexico doesn't have the same standards for their meats as we do.

I go to mexico all the time and the water at the resorts are SAFE to drink. I was told that if you go outside the resort the ice is purified if there is a hole throught it. Knock on wood, my family or I have never gotten sick! So the answer to your question is yes the resort water is SAFE!!

Honestly, whether you get sick or not can depend on so many things. Some people who go are totally fine and others get sick. It all depends on the circumstances. I've been and was totally fine. I stayed at a nice hotel and drank like a fish both there and at the bars and nothing happened. I've known people who go down there and get sick, no matter what they do.
I think its just the different climate, different foods and a little bit of different minerals in the water that does it. Some peoples stomachs don't get affected, some do.

Don't let it deter you from going to Mexico though, its a beautiful and really fun place! We're going back there to Cabos San Lucas on our honeymoon.

I went to Cancun and had frozen drinks and I got sick from my stomach. Maybe it depends on the sensitivity of your stomach.

I think it depends on the individual and how sensitive your stomach is. FH and I were in Playa del Carmen for 8 days at a resort and had no problems at all. We only drank bottled water but drank a ton of their frozen drinks and had ice in our sodas.
