Michael Moore

Just curious how many people out there have seen Michael Moore's documentary films such as Fahrenheit 911 and Bowling for Columbine because I am in a Soc film study class and have to watch his films and my professor said people either really love him or hate him and I want to see is its true??

HATE HIM

Re: Michael Moore

I dont love or hate him, but I do watch some of his movies. I think he is a little over the top when he interviews people, but I guess he does it to prove 'his' point. Any filmmaker would do the same.

I think people just need to remember when watcing a 'documentary' that it is only one side of a story, and like news reports, can be slanted and biased. But I do think it is important to see multiple sides in order to make an educated decision for yourself. You can definately love or hate him, but keep in mind that his is one opinion of many.

Love Him, I find him very clever. Even if a lot of his movies are edited, I still find that he has a great mind. I love watching his different view points.

I saw Fahrenheit 911. He got his point across but it was so biased that it seemed quite unreal. I think he is a bit over the top on the belligerent side.

I liked him a lot better earlier in his career. Roger and Me IMO is still by far his best movie and one of the only real documentaries he's made. I don't often agree with him but I did respect his opinions, points and grit.

His more recent films are so incredibly biased and more for shock effect than anything else, making them movies instead of documentaries.

hate him. think he just shows things from his point of view, he doesn't offer any solutions, just lieks to point out Bush's problems.

Thanks for the wonderful feedback!! But I have to say my teacher is right, the percentage of people loving him and hating him are almost the same!

I hate him. I find his creditability lacking especially after Fahrenheit 911. He edited his film and mis quoted people and twisted their words through editing. Based on that, I find him unscrupulous. JMO

I love him. I don't always agree with him, but I don't have to. I think he's witty and gutsy and so so funny.

I think a lot of what he says is true. I find it disturbing that a huge portion of our military is made up of minorities.

I loved it when he went to Washington and tried to sign up politicians sons.

I loved how he gave that grieving mother a voice to cry out for her son.

I absolutely love him. I think he's brilliant. Alot of his stuff is slanted, but it's supposed to be. My friend actually worked very closely with Michael on Farenheight 911, and says he's a genius.

Re: Michael Moore

What I have to say about Fahrenheit 9/11 is that the first time I saw it, I thought ti was absolutely perfect. it struck me at my core. It was so emotional, it made me laugh, it made me cry, it infuriated me, it shocked me, it amused me, etc. I was so enamored with it.

When i watched it again on DVD, the initial emotional impact wasn't there, so I was able to think of it in more critical terms. I felt like he was asking the viewer to make a few leaps. it was more in what he didn't say and in what he implied than in what he spelled out. I felt like, yes, this is a really extreme viewpoint, he's really going one way with this.

However, I really can't stand people saying, oh don't watch it, it's sooo biased. Ok, obviously it's biased. He never even tried to present it as being unbiased. If he was trying to present it as a middle of the road ho hum documentary, he would NOT have named it Fahrenheit 911, he would have named it 'president bush's first term: an overview.'

The thing that makes Michael Moore so brilliant is his way of elucidating what should be obvious. I love the scene where he tries to get congressmen to sign their children up for the armed forces. It was just so powerful. They sent other people's children so easily, but the thought of sending their own children was absurd. Also, he presented a lot of facts that I think Americans need to at least think about. Even if you're not making the leaps he's suggesting you make, there are things you can't ignore..like the man dying because his heart transplant can't be flown to him, meanwhile Saudi royals and the bin laden family are on the first and only jets out of the US, Bush's oil connections, the fact that hardly any congressmen read the USA PATRIOT Act before signing it...these are all things I think we need to think about.

I think what makes Moore's fi;ms so brilliant, and softens the edge is his great sense of humor. He was really putting up some hard facts against the president and at the same time playing 'vacation, all I ever wanted...' I seriously almost wet my pants when I heard them play that. I mean he's talking about very serious issues without taking himself seriously. He really draws people in with his humor. Even if you're not interested in his politics, the movies are worth watching for the humor element.

Also I want to add that I also have the F9/11 book that has the entire script and basically goes line by line with a reputable source for every single fact. He didn't pull this stuff out of his azz. It makes me really wonder how much else on the news we're ignoring. I think that's Moore's greatest gift. Whehter or not we agree with his viewpoints, he brings very important things to our attention.

i think it is pretty easy to state an opinion, twist events to make it look the way YOU WANT them to look, manipulate people into believing it as 100%truth and offer no solutions on his own.
I think that is done EVERYDAY! Definately do not need cajones for that...just a lot of money to film it

I can't say that I love MM but, I do believe that his movies and books have made me think more about our government. I think that he offers an alternate viewpoint in a dramatic way. He does offer solutions. In his book 'Stupid White Men' he urges Americans to take back control of their government. This is IMO his goal. To make Americans more aware of how the officals we elect abuse the power that we have given them. He wants for us to realize that we have a choice in the matter and that if we don't like the way in which our nation is headed then we have the ability to change it.
