michele31... or anyone else that can help...

Do you know which OPT are better than others? I was probably going to get First Response. At Drugstore.com they have 7 OPT's, 1 pregnancy test and a planner for $29.00. I got my prenatal vitamins from there also. I also was thinking about ClearBlue or ClearPlan. Any knowledge about these? Or are there better ones? Thanks!

I found this chart on testsforless.com, which is where I ordered OPKs and HPTs from. It shows the sensitivity of HPTs.

The lower the mIU the more sensitive the test, which means that you can test earlier with the tests with a low mIU since you can have less of the hCG hormone and still be +

Testsforless 20 mIUs hCG
Confirm 1-Step 25 mIUs hCG
One Step Be Sure 25 mIUs hCG
E.P.T. 40 mIUs hCG
Clearblue Easy 50 mIUs hCG
Generic: Rite-Aid, Target 50 mIUs hCG
Answer 100 mIUs hCG
Equate (Wal-Mart) 100 mIUs hCG
First Response 100 mIUs hCG
Precise 100 mIUs hCG
QTest 100 mIUs hCG
Store Brand: Walgreens 100 mIUs hCG

You can also order from www.babyhopes.com

Also consider getting the Clear Plan Fertility Monitor. It is a lot more money upfront, but from what I hear it is much, much easier to use than the traditional OPK. You can also get them brand new, sealed on eBay for less.
But in all honestly Melissa. You are pretty young, in good health and therefore have a very good chance of getting pg easily. I think if you read the book and start to chart you will have tons of info to help you get pg. Again, that is just a recommendation. It is a lot cheaper to read the book and get the therometer in the beginning of TTC.

I agree with Michele that the OPKs can get expensive and you should get TCOYF which is a great book. Even though I charted and used the OPKs, I think the thing that helped me the most was checking my cervical fluid to see when I was most fertile, you can read all about it in that book!!

Thanks... I do think I know when I'm most fertile, I just wanted the OPT just for that extra assurance. Now, about the mIU? Do I want a lower one or a higher one? If it has 100 mIU, than it would only show when I am extremely fertile, right??? I do hope I get pregnant fairly easily. I don't think I have the patience to wait, and wait... I know it must be hard for those of you that have been trying a while now. Thanks again everyone!

Melissa- have you ever read the book? If not, you might think that the day 14 ovulation rule is true. In many women, me for example, is not true at all. Charting is the only way you can tell that you are ovulating every cycle and the cervical fluid is also very, very important. Honestly I don't know why no doctor has every explained this stuff to me before.

Oh oh! I just realized that the chart that I posted above is for HPT, not OPKs. Oops sorry for the confusion. So, to go back to your question, I don't know which OPKs are the best.

Michele, I think the reason doctors don't explain any of this stuff is because that would take up to much of their time. Most of the time they try and rush each patient through.

My gyno suggested Clearplan. My girlfriend who is hard core TTC right now bought a fertility monitor on Ebay for $165, after adding up how much all these OPK’s were costing her!
