Mid-may the weather is nicer. I think late august will cost you less though. However, in August with such hot weather you have a greater chance of thunderstorms!

Re: mid may vs. late august
We were essentially deciding between the same 2 times because we had to plan around my law school and summer job schedules. We chose August because it was closer to our anniv (9/1), I love the summer and don't mind hot weather, I liked the symmetry of our date (08/17/08), I love Aug because it's my birthday month, and I thought it would be easier to get married at the end of the summer instead of right after finals. A lot of graduations are mid-late May, so if you have friends or family who will be graduating you should take that into consideration too. Finally, it gave us a little more time to plan, since we got engaged May 07.
As you can see, many of our reasons had to do with our specific situation. You really can't go wrong with either.

Re: mid may vs. late august
Aside from the heat that was already mentioned, is there a big difference in price??
If you have a lot of OOT guests that you are planning to invite, it may be tough. I was going to say they may be more able to come in August, but i forgot most schools start up again in August if you are having kids at the wedding.
May can be just as warm as August, would you have to have a Sunday in August to compare to a Saturday in May?

Re: mid may vs. late august
we're getting married in August for many reasons...we're getting married on our anniversary...we have a lot of relatives and friends who are teachers as well as OOTers and we wanted to make sure they could attend (because we're having a friday wedding)
price wise i'm not sure but i think its the same..mid may vs. late august because both months fall within the high bridal season...i think it just depends on the date and time you pick
no matter what you decide you're wedding will be awesome!
