Does anyone know how to get rid of Migraines-other than taking Excedrine or some other pain killer? I have one that starts in my eyeball and goes all the way down to my neck. I took 2 excedrine an hour ago and it's done nothing. Ouch

Re: Migraines
I find that icepacks work...I alternate them between over my eyes and on the back of my neck and LOTS of advil (like 4 at a time with caffeine)

Re: Migraines
I usually put a cold washcloth over my eyes, it also helps to block out the light.
I did just buy imitrex, but haven't tried it yet. I heard it works really well for migraines.

Sorry, the only thing that has worked for me is Excedrin Migraine. I don't leave home with out it. Feel better.

My FFIL suffers from frequent migraines and gets a prescription that takes care of them almost instantly. I wish I knew what it was called...... sorry! Hope you feel better!

Re: Migraines
Caffine!!!! It opens up the constricted blood vessels that cause migraines
I get them bad, most people only get them on one side of the head, i am lucky i get them on both sides. I got caffine pills.

Thanks. I actually went to the doctor for it and she told me to come back when regular OTC remedies stop working. I think that might be now, unfortunately.

Wow i think that is bad. My doc sent me to a neurologist and we went from there
I say get a second opinion...I find migraines never go away with OTC crap

Absolutely nothing helps me but Imitrex - which requires a Rx

Re: Migraines
I get horrible migranes (the kind where I get lightening bolts in my vision and LOSE part of my sight for a while before I get the naseau and headaches)
I can tell you to take a LOT of caffine - if you took excidrin it is tylenol, asprin, and caffine - caffine intensifies the reaction of asprin. I would try to close my eyes a bit, use some ice, and maybe rub your shoulders or stretch your arms a bit sometimes that can alleviate some of the pain.
I am soooooo sorry you are having this since it REALLY is VERY uncomfortable and miserable

Re: Migraines
Funny you should bring this up, I've only recently began suffering from migraines the past year or so, and its made my life miserable. After going to a neurologist last year and ruling out anything serious, I've learned to cope .. but they recently started hitting me every week or so, and its hard to function when I'm like that.
Last week I went to a headache clinic in NYC and the doctor there gave me some suggestions ... regular exercise helps a lot, taking vitamin B12 and magnesium regularly, and also some of the prescription medications on the market work well for those who have severe symptoms. OTC pain killers usually do NOTHING for those who suffer from TRUE migraines.
Some of the medications out there are Imitrex and he gave me a sample of Maxalt to try next time I'm hit with a bad one. Only trouble with the medications is that you must take them when you FEEL a migraine coming on .. once you have the migraine already, the prescriptions usually won't work.
Its a tricky thing to diagnose correctly and everyone has different things that work for them.. Good Luck

Re: Migraines
Ugh I'd prefer not to have to take the prescription but I think I may need to. I used to think that the migraines were caused by my wisdom teeth. But I got all 4 pulled back in November so it's definitely not that.
It is starting to feel a little better now. I think the combination of Starbucks and Excedrine is working. Thanks for all of your advice. You guys are great

Re: Migraines
I am so sorry and I feel your pain. I get migraines all the time, same thing starts in one eyeball and goes to the back of my neck. A lot of the time brought on by light. Unfortuately no drug/ pain killer has ever made it go away for me. Just sleep which is a lot of the times hard to do b.c of the headache, or having someone massage your face and neck, hitting the pressure points.
ETA - I just read the other posts, glad you are feeling better, just wanted to add coffee often helps too for me.

Re: Migraines
I suffer from cronic A-typical migrane. It happens when I am really stressed! (like always) With these migranes I go paralyzed on one side of my body and I loose vision. The first time it happened I was put in ICU for a brain tumor. Now I am able to see the 'Aura' (sp?) and I know its time to take excedrine. If the pounding in my head continues I take Floricet. I get very nauseus from the pressure in my head. If it still doesn't clear I have to go to the hospital for a shot.
The best advice is the min you feel something take the over the counter medication!! This usually gets rid of it right away!

Sorry to hear you suffer from migraines. I got them all my life (infrequently), but recently started getting them VERY often! Excedrin Migraine took the edge off, but didn't make it go away. Because it was interfering w/ my job, & pretty much my life in general, I went to a neurologist & he put me on a daily med to prevent me from GETTING them. I take a very low dose of Topamax right before bed every night & it's been a miracle!!! Imitrex did pretty much nothing for me, although I do carry injections of Imitrex w/ me in my purse at all times just in case one comes along- it's worth a shot (no pun intended). Good Luck to all my fellow migraine sufferers!!!

My boss and my FH get terrible migraines and the best combination...
Mountain Dew and Advil migraine.
Mountain Dew is loaded with caffiene. I take the combo when I have a headache and it works for me too!!! We swear by it!
