migraines... what do you do?

Re: migraines... what do you do?

If you think your migraines are partially related to dehydration -- buy a scale that monitors your body water percentage. I got one and it has been really useful. You might be able to track what your body water percentage is when you feel a migraine coming on, and then you can start to monitor it once a day and start drinking water early in the day if you realize your percentage is too low. We got our scale at BBB for about 60-70 bucks. I think it has been very useful!

Honestly, when I get migranes I usually throw up and then sleep for hours and hours...this is the only thing that helps.

I feel I don't get migraines frequently enough to go on medication...

Re: migraines... what do you do?

if you get them during your period it is from the extreme drop in estrogen. i get this and i read somewhere that if you start taking ibuprofen (or some other NSAID) a few days before your period and during your period it will help. I found this helpful. So the key is not to wait til you have pain but to be proactive and take the ibuprofen a few days before your period several times a day- even if you don't have a headache.

since you have kidney troubles, i would def check with your doctor though..Ibuprofen might be processed by your kidneys..im not sure though.

Like another poster suggested, acupuncture might help.

I see a headache specialist for my migraines. He is wonderful! I went from having 16+ headaches a month to about 4.

Did you try Advil Migraine? It may help. Also when my headaches are really bad my Dr. has me take benydryl with the headache meds.Try laying down in a dark quiet room- Make sure you eat regular meals and snacks b/c hypoglycemia can trigger migraines. Chocolate and coffee have caffeine that can lead to rebound headaches so try to stay away from them if possible.

Ugh I hear ya... I was getting migraines REALLY badly and then I talked to dreamerchic33 and she really helped me out a lot. Thanks again BTW

I've started drinking MUCH more water every day and eating more snacks in between meals, and I haven't had a migraine in a few weeks (Yey!)

I've also been avoiding chocolate (for the most part) because that seems to trigger my headaches. So just look and see what kinds of foods make the headaches come on.

have you ever tried to use essential oils? lavender, clove, cinnamon they help me. cold compress. drink lots of water or decaf tea. sweet dreams by bigelow works for me. i wait until it cools a bit. also i use saline nasal spray sometimes that helps.

honestly when i get a migraine i have to lay in bed in the cool under the covers in the dark with the blinds shut the door shut and my eye mask on and ride it out. every time it is so bad i feel like i am going to die. it hurts so bad i can't even ask DH if i need something like water. i can't even talk or think. i usually lay in the bed with the dog, and pray i fall asleep. then for the next day i have to wait it out to see if it comes back which sometimes is does for a day or two. then deal with the migrain hangover.

I too suffer from TMJ and Migraines, I wear my nite guard to sleep and I take Treximet at the first sign of a headache and haven't had any issues. Actually, since I started with the nite guard I really haven't even taken the Treximet... HTH
