Migration Patterns of the Suburban Monkey

Migration Patterns of the Suburban Monkey

The great move has begun. I brought boxes of books and some clothes over to FH's last night. More books, more clothes, and my stereo will be making the journey tonight. I will be completely moved in this weekend!!

Last night, however, while putting my books in the bookcase it occurred to me what a ginormous geek I am. Not only do I have my books stacked by genre, but I have doubles of the most bizarre books. I have 2 of 'Their Eyes Were Watching God' by Zora Neale Hurston, 2 of 'My Bondage, My Freedom' by Frederick Douglass and 2 'Waiting for Godot' by Samuel Beckett. The best part is, I got into my car this morning to go to work and noticed, tucked carefully in the back seat, a THIRD copy of 'Waiting for Godot'. Because one can never have too much nihilistic Post-Modern drama.

No wonder I hate myself!

It would be hard for monkeys lacking opposable thumbs to move so many books!

One copy of Waiting for Godot is more than enough. Did you read each copy of it?

ETA: Congrats! You must be so happy to be doing the big move finally!

No kidding!

I've only read it once... so the others are for parting gifts I guess?

wow- its creepy how much you are like my husband. Between the 2 of us we had 3 copies of A day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich .

He is mostly ok, with getting rid of duplicates. but his is particular about which edition he keeps.

BTW- Love Godot!

Now, double books may seem unnecessary, but consider this...you are having a pleasant Saturday night with your significant other, accompanied by an equally pleasant bottle of wine. One thing leads to another and before you know it you are--now's the point where you yank your dirty minds out of the gutter--screaming at each other at the top of your lungs! You retire to the spare bedroom where you do what you always do, try to ignore the situation by losing yourself in your favorite book, trying to focus on the wobbly letters as your eyes fill up with tears.

DH busts on in and wants to 'Talk about it' Get out and leave me alone! you yell and hurl your book-in-hand at his head. In his anger, he picks up the paperback and starts tearing it into pieces.

'Na, na' you say 'I've got another!'

It's a b*tch to read the hardcover version of a 1000+ page book, but I thank god every day for my second copy of The Fountainhead

From Freeport to Oceanside... it's where all the monkeys with capes and cute shoes winter.

Not for nothing, but you must be doing something wrong if you are throwing the paperback.
