MIL and DH's Birthday....

MIL and DH's Birthday....

Ok so DH's birthday is Friday and I wanted to have the family (his parents and my parents) over for dinner Saturday night. My MIL says, 'Well, I wanted to have everyone over for his birthday on Saturday also. I told her that I wanted to have his birthday this year because I haven't had the two sets of parents over yet and I thought his birthday would a perfect time.

To make a long story short....SHE is having his Birthday dinner (MINUS my parents) because she wants include his sister and kids as well.

Did anyone have to deal with the in laws wanting to do the same thing you want to do when it comes to your husband? What bothers me is that HE DOESN'T LIVE AT HOME ANYMORE, you don't have to have a birthday dinner for him if I AM HIS WIFE!

Maybe I'm overreacting....what do you think?

i would lay the law down early on in the relationship -- tell them you are hosting both families, if they can come fine, if not, well...too bad

I am anticipating that for DH's next birthday--he will be 30 &I'd liket o do soemthing, but I'm sure his mother will too. I may let her, b/c honestly, she has more chairs, but I think it would be nice if she invited my parents. Butits nto untill December, so I won't stress now!

Re: MIL and DH's Birthday....

It's so hard to juggle this stuff. I wanted to have both sets of parents, with our siblings, over for Chanukah, but we ended up having to do it separately, b/c my MIL wanted HER sister (DH's aunt) and DH's cousins to be involved. These are all grown adults, but my MIL is incapable of doing things without her sister. It makes me feel like we'll never do anything with both sets of parents.

Unfortunately, I don't have an easy solution for you...I just wanted to commisserate!

Thanks Jax.....it was hard during the holidays I know

I just wish that his mother would understand that she doesn't have to throw her 'baby' a birthday party every year and that I can.
