MIL / FMIL

Will you call her mom? my mil wants me to call her mom and i just dont htink i can do it. Dh calls my mom , MOM. I kinda feels since he calls my mom it, that i should calls his mom it too.

But for some reason when i see her i just cant get that word to ever come out of my mouth

I call her Lynn...her first name. I think it would be weird to call her Mom, because I already have a Mom that I call Mom.

i feel the same way, plus i have called her kathy for the last 9 yrs we dated.

NO WAY...
FH calls my mom by her first name and I call my FMIL Mrs. XXXXX. She is not my mom, nor will she ever be, so I'll just stick to her Mrs. XXXXX or her first name.
We don't have that kind of relationship...at all.

i don't call her mom, and i don't think she expects me to either, although i know she would absolutely love it if i did. she has no daughters of her own, and always wanted one. when DH and i first got engaged, she hugged me and was like 'now i have a daughter'. (yet she has another DIL). i lost my mom when i was 17 (coincidentally, so did MIL), so i haven't called anyone mom in 15 years, and it's very hard to call anyone else that. i know my dad calls his IL's mom and pop, but i'm sure that's at their insistence, and his wife's insistence (makes me ill to hear it!).

I started calling my future-in-laws Mom and Dad before we even got engaged. I sort of did it in a cutesy way back then but now I do it b/c they are going to be my in-laws. I know they aren't my parents but I don't see anything wrong with calling them mom and dad anyway. FH calls my parents mom and dad. And we call each other's aunts and uncle's 'aunt' and 'uncle' too, and his grandma I call 'grandma' etc.

I call my FMIL by her first name. I think it is wonderful when people feel close enough to use mom or dad but for me...I just don't think I can

My mom past away 4 years ago so there's no way I can call anyone else mom... I'd feel too weird about it!!

I absolutely love my FMIL but I can't call her Mom. I call her by her first name (Lil). I have one mother and I couldn't even imagine calling someone else mom.

I feel like she'll want me to call her mom but I just can't...I have a mom. All her other SIL's & DIL's call her mom. I just know i won't be able to do it.

I've spoken to FH about this and he thinks it's fine for me to address her by her first name...he gets it since he feels he feels the same way about it. He addresses my parents by their first name also (Al & Betty).

I call mine by her first name. You need to do what you feel comfortable doing.

I dont yet so Im not sure...sometimes I think, for me, when I talk to them its easier for me to call them mom and dad but I dont

I call my FMIL Mom...it was hard to say it at first... I just realized my FH doesnt call my Parents anything lol. He just says 'hiiii'
His Dad past away a while ago and I highly doubt he will ever call my dad 'Dad' which I completely understand.

I don't call her anything! I can't call her Gayle, it's too weird because ... well, I just can't. If I have to get their attention I just go over to them so that I don't have to say 'Hey, you!' Mrs. Booth is weird too, because I should be able to call them something a little more personal, but her first name or Mom would be weird. In cards, fine, Mom and Dad. But I usually have FH write them out since they are his parents. :) I'm funny like that, I know.
