Is this a big no no? My mom got her dress in Aug even before MIL brought up dresses...and then after seeing my mom's she has been saying she has wanted that color all along...(she also wore an EXTREMELY similar outfit to my mothers for our engagement party after seeing my mom's)...sooo should I say 'my mom's dress is that color and I don't think you two should be in the same exact color'

Traditionally the bride's mom chooses her gown first and then the groom's mom chooses after that and does NOT choose the same color. However, if you and your mom don't mind, it's ok. They'll actually be in very few photos together.

Wow ... So, I guess she got over the whole invitation thing?? LOL
I'm sorry, but to me, it seems like she is just trying to rile you up all the time ... Personally, I would ask her to try and go with a different color, as technically, they should not match, just wear complimenting colors - Just be weary, because if you anger her again, she may just wear black, and we all know thats a big NO NO for Moms!
I'm actually in a similar predicament. My mother showed FMIL a Lilac dress that she was in love with, and FMIL knew for months that my girls are wearing light blue. But, one day I get an email from her saying 'since your Mom is wearing turquoise, and your girls are wearing dark blue, I guess I will go with a light blue dress' ... it was that moment when I realized I would have my hands full ... hahaha!
I feel your pain, and I truly hope things get easier for you!

Re: MIL wants to get same color dress as my mom....
Thanks jovigirl...she only got over the invite thing cuz my FH told her me and my mom knew what she said and were shocked by her actions, then she was like 'do what ever you think is right'...i am still gunna do the two invites...the dress thing is annoying...like i told her on the phone that the dress she likes is the same color as my moms...and for 15 min she was like 'are you sure, are you sure,,,,hmmm thats the color i really wanted'...like i don't wanna be rude but its sooo annoying she was like waiting for me to be like 'naaa its not the same go for it' i just gave my FH the phone. I don't know if she is doing it on purpose or she just thinks my mom has great taste and knows she will be well dressed if she copies her? However any color i mention to her she is like 'no, no, no that won't look good on me'. Like the only color left for her to wear is the one my mom got. I also don't have bridesmaid dresses yet so I am waiting for her to get a dress already so that I can order the girls dresses. I should just put them in the same color and be evil. I almost rather she wear black!
