After getting engaged abroad I am FINALLY () starting to plan our wedding! I've scheduled appointments with Milleridge Inn and George Wahington Manor. We hope to have around 150 people. Any negotiating tips to get the prices down? They're pretty reasonable, but with tax and gratuity it adds a lot of money. We don't have a date set; will that help? Besides getting married on a Friday night or Sunday, are there any other ways to bring the price down? TIA.
Also, we're thinking about getting married on-site. Has anyone done that for either place? Thanks again

Congrats! I like both places but I think GW would be less expensive. You may want to consider a less popular month as well. I did February for that reason and it was so much cheaper. Even November would be less expensive than May.

be flexible with the month. Nov - March are typically the cheapest months to have a wedding.
good luck!

Re: Milleridge Inn versus George Washington Manor
Congratulations!
GWM was a very close second choice but the room was too small for us. The food is great but unfortunately, we could not bargain at all with them. Everyplace else we looked we were able to bring the price per person down a bit because we do not want carving stations or chafing dishes at the cocktail hour which took between $6-$10 off the price per person. Instead, GWM said that there is no negotiating on the total price, but they will give us more in one place (ie more passed hors d'orves, dessert or entree choices) if we take it away in another.

Re: Milleridge Inn versus George Washington Manor
They are both owned by the same people, so I am not sure they will compete with one another. Just my two cents.... We got married at the Swan Club, which is not too far from the GWM. I think one thing I like better about the Milleridge is that is is more centrally located, easier to find, and closer to more hotel options. Just something else to think about.....We stayed at the Roslyn Claremont, but it is a bit pricy and only 2 of our guests chose to stay there, even though it was the closest hotel to the reception hall.

What is the average per person at both places? Day and night?
I really need to start making appointments before school starts!

George Washington Manor is smaller and I think less expensive (they are owned by the same people). I love the Milleridge. My brother got married there 3 years ago, and it was simply beautiful. They got married Dec. 1st so the entire place was decorated with a huge tree and wreaths. Very Pretty!! They also had a morning wedding, and the Milleridge threw in a breakfast and coffee for the guests.

Re: Milleridge Inn versus George Washington Manor
I love them both. I've been to a George Washington Manor wedding and the food was great and the place is beautiful. Also, their pictures came out awesome. They only had 100 people and I would worry that 150 is too much for that room. Sure, they offer it but I think it might be way to cramped. Also, 150 for the cocktail is going to be a big squeeze! And if it rains, you're screwed unless they have another room for the cocktail hour that I don't know about which is possible.
Millerage is just as nice and larger. It has a fireplace- which I love. What day of the week? They might have a higher min on Saturday nights.

Re: Milleridge Inn versus George Washington Manor
I got married at Milleridge Inn recently and was very happy with the treatment we received, the food, everything. FM me if you want details. We couldn't ge the price down, but they did throw some little things our way, and we were pretty happy with the package, so we didn't try to get it down that hard.
We looked at both, and Milleridge was actually less expensive, had more options for spaces, and was centrally located, closer to hotels, etc. We had a lot of out-of-town guests, and I could see them running into trouble trying to find GW. I've heard good things about gW though, so you'll probably be happy with either.

Re: Milleridge Inn versus George Washington Manor
I loved Milleridge (we're actually having our rehearsal dinner at the Milleridge restaurant). Milleridge was our second choice (kind of our first choice actually, but after heavy persuasion from my parents, we chose the Crescent-glad we did though). It has a very traditional feel to it which I liked and I absolutely fell in love with the indoor ceremony area. It's one of the most appealing things about the place. The menus also looked good and the price seemed really reasonable. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.
