Scott and I are deciding b/w the two......We've reviewed the food menu options, the cost, and whatnot, and what it comes down to is this:
I like Milleridge's room better than Watermill, but I feel more comfortable with the banquet manager at Watermill. It seems everything else is pretty comparable.
I'm not super crazy about the reception room at watermill, and if it turns out to be a crappy day, the entire event will take place indoors (including the ceremony) and i'm not super crazy about that. If it was a beautiful day, I could at least know that I'll love the outdoor ceremony and cocktial hour, but you know how that story goes. I don't want to get attached to the idea of that and then get rained in.
As for Milleridge, I don't get the same feeling from their banquet managers as I do from the guy at Watermill. But, I haven't had too much interaction with them. At the same time, Watermill followed up more with us. Decisions Decisions! Any help or opinions (both positive and negative) is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Re: Milleridge vs. Watermill...??
I am having my wedding at the Watermill...i shopped around and fell in love...also it helps that we have a late November wedding and FH has a fireplace obsession...I also find them really helpful and so far, nothing bad to say!

It sort of sounds like you see too many drawbacks with either of them. Have you considered other places?

Re: Milleridge vs. Watermill...??
hmmm.......we are considering looking at some other places, but it just kills me to look at more! I guess we haven't looked allllll over. We saw Swan Club, Riviera, and Timber Point. I just want to choose a date already. We've been engaged for 2 months and need to get moving!
I shouldn't rush into things but I sometimes feel these places begin blurring into one another and all seem the same, but so different too.
We also loved the fireplaces. Milleridge had a fireplace too. I thought the fake windows were a little funny though. But, my FH didn't mind them at all. He liked the dance floor and was making moaning and groaning noises all through the menu descriptions. hehe

You don't sound like you absolutely LOVE either one. It cant hurt to look at some more. Its your wedding and you dont want to rush to book a place unless you love it.
What BM did you talk to at the Watermill?
We are getting married at the watermill. It was the first place we went to , we loved it, price, rooms, BM, everything. But, we still looked at 3 other places afterwards...just to rule them out.
We loved the outdoor part of the Watermill and realy want to be able to have an outdoor ceremony /CH (weather permiting). BUT, we booked b/c we also liked the inside too. I love the RH room (Vanderbuilt. Downstairs). I could 'settle' on the ceremony inside, but of course, I would love the outside.
I havent been to any paries at Milleridge, but all I hear for EVERYONE when I say Watermill, is how awesome the food and service. I have also heard that they treat the bride and groom like a king and queen.
Good luck with your decision. Let us know when you choose.

Re: Milleridge vs. Watermill...??
Ooo - congrats on picking your place! We met with Bruce. He was so nice, and so helpful and very professional. We really liked him a lot, and frankly, he's a big part of the reason why we are considering Watermill. He made us feel so comfortable with getting married there. Both of us agreed that he has everything under control (a good thing!).
I am weighing whether it is more important to have a reception room I just love love love but feel so-so (at least going in) about the service, although I have heard very good things about the service, or.......is it more important that I have a place with amazing food and service, but the room i am 'okay' with, and could live with.
I'm trying to pick out the bad stuff b/c there are so many good things at both places that I can't use that as the basis of my decsion.
I think we need to check out another place or two then check back in again!

Re: Milleridge vs. Watermill...??
I've been to events at the Watermill and at the Milleridge - both are beautiful, but the service at the Watermill was much better... and their ceilings are higher... huge problem for us - since the shortest male on FH's side is 6'6'... My vote is Watermill!

Re: Milleridge vs. Watermill...??
thats a tough one. my cousin got married at milleridge cottage. gorgeous! the food was flowing - i mean there was so much. the reception was beautiful. as for watermill, we checked it out when we started looking and it was actually our 2nd choice. they didnt accomodate on site nighttime saturday ceremonies though so we didnt book with them. however, i think either way you can't go wrong. good luck.

Re: Milleridge vs. Watermill...??
I have to tell you that even though I'm a bit partial - I absolutely had OUTSTANDING service at the Watermill all throughout our planning. Not once did I ever have a problem when I had a question or concern about something. They went way out of their way to accomodate all of my needs the day of. All of my guests were beyond happy with the Watermill and we are still constantly getting compliments on the Watermill's decor, service, food quality, everything! You absolutely cannot go wrong with the Watermill.
However, I do understand your concern with the rain situation. I felt the same way, but luckily our day was gorgeous.
We also went to visit with the Milleridge before we booked, and to be honest, I wasn't crazy about them either. I did not get a good vibe from them, I felt that overall for what you were getting, it wasn't a good price. You would get more for your money at the Watermill. However, I think DNicholes got married there and was very happy with their service. Maybe you could FM her for more info?
What it comes down to is if you are not completely satisfied with either place, definitely keep looking! There are SO MANY other beautiful places. You will find what you want - be patient!

I totally agree. My wedding was the wedding of my dreams because of the Watermill. The service - from the front desk girl to the BMs (I had Bruce also but met others throughout the process), to my amazing MD, Bridal Attendant, and the servers, was seriously top-knotch. I am totally anal with details and they got every single thing spot-on. Our room was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and our guests are still talking about it almost a year later. Check out my review for lots and lots of pics.
I would say though if you are not 100% sold on either one...keep looking - you should be super comfortable and sure of such an important decision. If you have any Watermill questions, please let me know!

It sounds a bit like you are not completely happy with either one. I know it's a pain, but maybe you should see a few more RHs before deciding.
I'm a bit biased though and love MIlleridge. I've never had a problem with their BMs and found them to be very attentive and patient (even with FH's annoying mom who kept asking them 5 gazillion questions and making little snide comments).

I'm surprised, we had a wonderful experience with Milleridge. The food and service were amazing. People are still raving about our wedding! Also something to consider, Milleridge is 1 wedding at a time!

I think you guys are right. I need to look at more places. If nothing else, perhaps it will help solidify my reasons for choosing one of them (mill. or water.). Thanks very much!!!!

Same here. Milleridge was the first place that we saw and I fell absolutely in love with it. Kristy was our BM and she was fantastic and extremely helpful. At the time, DH was in the Army and there was a possibilty that he was going to Iraq which actually did happen. When we booked with them, they wrote into our contract, in case he was deployed we could switch to a different date without being penalized. I loved that Milleridge was one wedding at a time. The food was incredible and the abundance was unbelievable. No one went hungry the day of my wedding. Not to mention we had boxes and boxes of pastries from the vientian hour to take home. People are still raving about my wedding as well, especially my in-laws, because this was their first 'american style' wedding and didn't know what to expect.
