mini-getaway before the wedding

so with all the stress of wedding planning and the crankiness that goes along w/ dieting (well, in my case at least) i decided to surprise my man w/ a weekend in the city.

with only 7 weeks to go i thought it would be nice to spend a night in the city and 're-connect'. i got a great deal through a friend for a hotel suite, and the Big Onion Irish walking tour is saturday morning, we have meaning to do that tour for over a year!!!

i just need to find a good restaurant for some take-out, and i need to figure out how to swipe some of his clothes and toiletries without him noticing!

now i have to think of an excuse to get him to the city on friday. i'm thinking some sort of free open-bar story would get him on a train.

yay!!!

anyone else going away BEFORE the wedding??

Re: mini-getaway before the wedding

We would like to over the summer, but probably will not due to money, and the fact that both of our families are really strict with that, and it doesn't matter that we're engaged, and that I'm a nun. Sigh.

I'm thinking about doing this too! FH and I have never been to Philly and we both really want to go and thought since it was close it would be relatively inexpensive.

Do you have any tips for where we should stay and good restaurants and sites to see?

Re: mini-getaway before the wedding

we were planning an impromptu trip to Vegas for a few days this week cuz i found a great last min deal on travelocity last week (4 nights at the Venetian + airfare for $550pp) but decided against it cuz we'd rather use the extra grand plus spending money towards our honeymoon. Would have been fun though.

Yes! Do it!!

Ben Franklin Museum
Walk along South St- could be dangerous bc its shopping $$
Eat at one of the many restaurants on south street- im veg so i cant really suggest anything other than that.

If youre looking to SUPER SAVE on a hotel stay on the jersey side. Theres a quality inn in gloucester that we pay like $60/nt to stay and its literally a 10 min drive into Philly- and your car is safe so no worries on that.

This time i figured id splurge since its a bday present so we;re staying at The Latham hotel which is in the center of everything and i only paid $120 not including whatever taxes are.

That's awesome! Thanks!

If we were to stay on the Jersey side...is it tough to get parking on Philly? We may have to FM each other...lol

FH has arranged for a weekend on the North Fork for wine tasting next month-- Its for my birthday but will be nice to get away from wedding mayhem for a couple of days.

Re: mini-getaway before the wedding

FH surprised me with a get-away to the city 2 weekends ago!!!

I LOVE HIM SO!

I've been so stressed that he got a room for us at the Parker Meridian, we went to a wonderful dinner and dancing, strolled in the park, went for a carriage ride the next day. It was like out of a movie.

Have a GREAT time, we REALLY needed it. He got a great deal on priceline.com for a room at the Parker.
