mini vent-extended fam on topic of kids at weddings

I just got a phone call from my aunt. she was asking if I am having kids at the wedding. When I told her no, she went on to say how I have to tell people in advance because they have to arrange babysitters...
My wedding is 9 months away!!!! Am I crazy to think that notifing people of the no kids policy in the wedding invitation is more than enough time!!??
I knew my extended fam was going to have a prob with that rule but I never expected the drama to happen so far in advance! JEEZ!!!
Thanks for listening!

wow... i agree. you shouldn't have to do it until you send out the invites.. but my sister was having some issues with not inviting people with dates and ended up having an issue. maybe its worth thinking about it letting some people know, maybe even by word of mouth. because my sister is having issues i will definitely be letting some people know about not having a date or bringing kids. that's just someone being cranky about it. the invitation is plenty of notice to arrange a babysitter--unless they're OOT.

i dont think you have to tell them in advance it should be stated on the invitation. I am not having kids except the ones that are in the bridal party. i have told people just in passing but most people want a night away.

I am having same issue. We're not having kids but made two exceptions, FH wants his nephew who will be two there, and my niece (who my dad is raising who is 12) They both need to come b/c FH really only has 4 family members and his nep is imp to him. and as my dad's paying for 1/2 he wants to bring my niece -I feel like that's fine. but then other people start to get offended. .like why can't I bring my kids then. . ah sigh..

Having that same problem with FH's family. They all want kids there and I am hearing about it already. Its so hard because they are from NJ. My mom said she's booking an extra hotel room and hiring 2 babysitters and they can all just stay there if need be. But they are NOT coming to the wedding. Its one of the only things I won't compromise on.

There's absolutely no reason you have to notify people before you send the invitations out. That's about 8 weeks before the wedding....which is 2 MONTHS!!!!! MORE than enough time, if that's not good enough then too bad for them, no reason for you to have to go out of your way 9 months in advance, thats just crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if they are out of town, i agree. the more notice the better. we have several guests coming from IL, CO, and WA and some have children. some will have to get sitters for an entire weekend. we are not saying no to children b/c we feel that since all of the adults are invited, if they don't want to leave their children we risk their attendance and FH would love to see his young relatives!!!

Im having the same problem w/ fh family. They have alot of kids and we had to call his family and tell them that there would be no kids in the reception. some of them didnt take it very good but oh well..

Does she really need 9 months to find a babysitter? That sounds like overkill...most people won't even want to comit to babysitting 9 months in advance!! I think 3 months is more than enough time. Sheesh, why do people insist upon adding more stress to a bride with stupid cr ap!!!!!!!!!
