Mini-Vent.....Thoughts Please

Mini-Vent.....Thoughts Please

OK, the girls at work have known for the past year I am getting married on October 17th...I am in a small office, but only inviting 2 girls from there...

Well, all last week and this past week one of the girls (who I was planning to invite) has been talkin about going on a cruise in October....

She may go Oct 10-17 or 24-31....

I am not upset if she is away and cannot make the wedding...its not a big deal to me, and its 2 less people I have to pay for

BUT....we are in the same position at the company....I am trying to find a new job, but nothing definite yet....

So...everytime I have wanted to take time off, I had to make sure she did not want it....Christmas...a vacation in May last year...my FBIL College Graduation...etc..etc...

NOW...if she does the 10-17, We will both be out October 14th and 15th....if she does the 24-31 we will both be out 25,26,27....

I don;t know how its gonna fly with the 'boss'...but I am not backing down...I can;t....have reservations and all..its a ONCE IN A LIFETIME THING....its MY LIFE...MY WEDDING...

Sorry, just needed to vent...do you think I am being unreasonable? I just think she should be more considerate, instead of turning this into what is going to be an office argument...I can see it now...well, Iam NOT compromising...

I just hope I have a new job before it comes to this....

Have you told your boss yet about the days you want off surrounding your wedding? If yes, then I can't imagine anyone ok'ing the other woman's vacation over yours. If you haven't discussed this with your boss, I would do it now. Any reasonable person would grant you your days off for your wedding over someone's cruise.

Stick to your guns. In the end, the staffing problem is not yours. You should (and will) have your time off for your wedding. It's not very considerate of your co-worker and your boss will probably recognize that.

I agree... TELL YOUR BOSS NOW. I've already gotten my time off for my wedding this September!! I need about 3 weeks in a row, so I was not shy about being very up front -- I think I asked him on like January 2nd!

Ask tomorrow! Good luck.

I will ask tomorrow....they are such asses there....they propbably will not give me the OK until another month or so goes by...I don;t even want to use vacay time for it, I don;t care if itis unpaid...I just need that time....

If all goes right tho I will NOT be working there by then, and if they do not grant it to me, and I am still working there, I will QUIT...I am serious here...and you are right, the staffing is not my promblem, but I have this problem witha guilty concience, even being sick, I feel I need to be there or my work gets more and more backlogged....

Yet, there are the other idiots who work there who will take off 3 dyas in a row for a 'sinus infection'...or a 'Cold'...I wish i had it in me to do tha without a guilty concience

Holly, I know this place where you work is filled with psychos (I've read your posts!)... just fill out whatever bullsh-t paperwork they require so everything is documented properly, and make sure you keep copies for yourself.

In case anyone later tries to give you a problem when Suzie Cruisey tries to take her vacay, you'll have the signed/dated documentation to throw in her face.

You're giving 9 months notice I'm sure you'll be fine!!

I would 'officially' put your request in with your supervisor & HR and not think about it again for a second.
