Minor Bathroom Makeover...

Re: Minor Bathroom Makeover...UPDATED!

Have you put the paint on the walls yet? If you're painting directly over the wallpaper, you might want to spackle over the seams lightly, and then sand before priming/painting. That will help minimize the appearance of seams from the wallpaper. Ugh. I am so sorry the removal of the paper didn't work out That sukks!

Re: Minor Bathroom Makeover...UPDATED!

We did that in some spots and it still is kind of noticable. It is just where the light from the windows hits the walls. Not so so bad, just not perfect. I'm thinking careful placement of some pictures and accesories should do the trick. I also think that since nothing else is in the room, your eye is automatically drawn to the imperfections.

DH and I were laughing yesterday that we were so annoyed with how they did the wall papaer and I said well wait till the next person owns this house and they say 'what idiots would paint over wallpaper!' I think it will turn out nice in the end.

Wallpaper stinks!! Thats the reason why I wont put it up b/c its such a ***** to take down!

Maybe you can do a 'striped' treatment using two slightly different shades of paint or the same shade but one eggshell and one high gloss. That way the 'seams' could line up with the stripes and you couldnt tell.

Re: Minor Bathroom Makeover...UPDATED WITH PROGRESS TO DATE!!

So after our fight with the wallpaper we primed and painted over the wallpaper. I did the sink area red and the rest a shortbread color with the exception of the room where the toilet is...that is also red. Here are some pics with our progress.

We are getting our shower retiled and thinking about adding decorative tile around the tub perimeter to tie it in with the new shower. But all that is still in the works.

Before

After (before light fixture and faucets are changed and decoration added)

And I want this to go on the all above the tub:

Suggestions welcome!!!

DOREEN! It looks GREAT! Oh my, what a HUGE difference! You must be so happy with it!
I love the swirly candle sconce - very nice to set a mood by the tub

Congrats on a fantastic job....I am sure with the new tile and 'finishing touches' it will look like a major bathroom re-do, even though it wasn't!

Thanks Claud! I was a bit hesitant about doing the room with the toilet that red, but we ran out of the shortbread and had a whole gallon of red left! And I'm so glad we did. It adds a touch of fun without being too overwhelming!

Today's project is to frame the mirror with molding!

Thanks for the feedback!

Doreen, what are the names/brands of the paint colors? I really like the combination of the red/shortbread and want to consider it for one of our rooms. Thanks

The shortbread is called 'Shortbread' and is Martha Stewart/Sherwin Williams. The red is also Sherwin Williams called Red Bay (SW 6321). Check your FM.

Still deciding on the light. I don't want to spend too much and nothing so far has struck me. And yes, candle holder is from Pottery Barn (and is on sale right now!)
