I know it's been a while since I posted but I don't knwo where else to go!
So I have a small wedding party and a long church aisle. So I have a brother who is in the wedding party. Considering the long aisle and small wedding party, I discussed it withmy parents and instead of having my brother walk my mom down the aisle and then having him run all the way back just walk down again I asked my parents what that thought of a very close male friend of mine to walk my mom down the aisle. Six months again it was a great idea, so I asked him, he was honored, everything is fine. Now here we are 2 1/2 months away and my parents are no in favor of the idea any more. They think it's wrong and they want my brother to walk my mother down the aisle and then some how just include my friend into the bridal party. Although this is a close friend of mine, him and FH aren't close so I'm not going to have him be in the bridal party.
My mom is pulling the...'this is the one thing that we are asking you to do...' line, whichis really starting to boil my insides. But how am I supposed to tell a close friend that I asked 6 months ago to be a part of my wedding that he no long can because my parents are acting like children?
Please help! What do I do?
TIA

It's totally up to you because it is YOUR day...but you could always just tell your friend that your brother wants to walk your mother down....or something along those lines. I'm personally having both my parents walk me down the aisle.

It is your day! But..if it's going to start a major fight maybe find a way to include him in another way.. It sucks but sometimes we have to choose our battles wisely.

ITA with this
you could tell him that you still want him to be part of the ceremony by being the person who does any of the following things:
- rolls out the aisle runner before you come down the aisle - hand out programs - hand out bubbles/petal cones

Re: Minor Freak Out
Are they paying for your wedding, bc yes it is your day, but they should be happy and comfortable, but they should also compromise. My dad had request and we are paying for everything ourselves, so after much frustration I put my foot down and said, This is the best I can and im sorry if my best is not good enough for you and I refuse to discuss it any further. END of conversation. He got over it. If he was paying I prob would've had to give him his way...

Why did they change their minds? I know it is traditionally a family member who walks the MOB down...maybe they thought about it and wanted it to be family? I've gone to a few weddings where the person who walked the MOB down was also a GM, and it does work out....there is plenty of time for him to just go back up along the side of the pews back to the bridal party and come down again. It's your day, so you should have what you want, but if it means that much to your parents, it may not be worth the fight. If the person is a good friend, he will understand. Parents can certainly be a pain when it comes to weddings, I am an expert on that!

I agree with your parents. I wouldn't want my child's friend walking me down the aisle if I had another child that could do it. They probably said yes 6 months ago because they didn't think you were serious. Even if it is a super close family friend or a relative, I actually think it's a little odd to have them walk down with your parents. I'd still want my own child to walk down with me.

Re: Minor Freak Out
I would honor your parents' request and make it work. It is not just a walk down the aisle, this will be recorded in photos and video and you and your family will be looking at this for a long time. Could you ask your friend to do a reading or walk a grandparent down the aisle? I agree that your brother can slip down the side aisle and join the bridal party. If you like, you could add a flower girl to buy some time.
Remember that what happens at weddings is remembered FOREVER by families so my advice is to pick your battles and keep the peace if you can.

I can see why they don't want a friend to walk them down. Why not walk alone or any other family members?
