Miss or Ms.??? (POLL)

When doing placecards for a single woman do I put Miss or Ms.

I think it depends on her age...

Miss is only for young girls - through high school age.

I've heard the etiquette for any single woman is Miss, but I always associate Miss with young girls, so I used Ms.

We used Miss for anyone single woman under the age of 30 who had never been married.
We used Ms for all single women over 30 or women who were divorced.

Ms.

Miss I always see as being used only for children - I find it kind of insulting to be called Miss - I'm not a child anymore!

I'm a teacher and all unmarried female teachers are 'Ms.' I'd darn well better not catch one of my kids writing 'Miss' before my name!

EDIT - oh, and I'm only 23, so I'm definitely under 30. Once I entered the professional world, I stopped being Miss.

I would say if she is over 21 it would be MS. not MISS.

Ms for adults and Miss for younger gals. I'd say under 18 use Miss.

ms is usually only used for women that are old. and for divorced women. miss sounds younger. its like being called ma'am. kill me.

I used Ms. for all adult unmarried women and Miss for girls under 18.

Yes, 'Miss' is used for female minors. It is acceptable to use either 'Miss' or 'Ms.' for adult women who have never been married. DH and I used 'Ms.' for every adult unmarried female 18 or over.

Miss or Ms. is acceptable for any female who has never been married.

We used Miss for anyone under 30 who had never been married. Older single women or divorced women were Ms. I have no reasoning for this other than it felt right at the time.

I do not, in any way, see how it is insulting to be called 'Miss' if you are an adult and single. You ARE a Miss. Not to mention, most people wouldn't even pay attention... All of the mail I get from friends and family is addressed to me as Miss right now -- obviously that'll change in 10 days, but it's certainly not insulting now.

I actually kind of felt the same way! I hate being called Ms. I think I just don't like the way it sounds. I even have my secretary answer my phone 'Miss ______'s Office' instead of Ms.

I'm guessing it'll be Ms. once I'm married -- since they really don't use Mrs. professionally. As much as I will like being Mrs., I think 'Mrs. ____'s office' would sound funny.

I think too much.

Ditto, Miss for young girls

I like Ms.
I think it is more sophisticated. I am a teacher and I have always used Ms. I think the Miss is very young. Not that being young is a bad thing.

Ms.

Miss is used for a teenager or young girl.

I always thought Miss was used for single ladies. Ms. is a combo of Miss and Mrs - basically when you don't know if they are married or not or if they dont want to reveal if they are married or not.
