Missing gift....

Missing gift....

Ok, this is a tough one ladies....

My future sister-in-law's best friend got married this past weekend and she noticed a card was missing from her now husbands uncle. How do you approach something like this? The girl who got married asked my future sister-in-law her opinion and she then asked me. The girl doesn't know if it was maybe a mistake and he forgot to give it to them, or if he did it intentionally. The girl doesn't want to start any arguments but doesn't know what to do. Should she just drop it??

I am going to post this in NWR too just for some extra feed back.

Thanks ladies!!

I misunderstood the problem!
If he didn't give a gift from himself, I would let it go. Is he having financial problems?

Maybe he forgot or doesn't know wedding ettiquette! I really don't think it's something I'd bring up with either the uncle, or anyone else in the family. Is he a nice guy or known as a jerk? If he's nice, hope that he sends something later in the coming months, if not, let it go.

She could send a thank you just thanking him for attending and sharing in your special day. Maybe he'll see he forgot!

No no, i am sorry if I didn't explain correctly. Her husbands uncle did not give them a gift. his is the only card missing from the bunch. they got a gift from everyone but him.

He may send it late. I think the idea about sending a Thank you for attending is very good. I don't think they should approach him directly otherwise.

Maybe her DH can mention something casually to his parents...

I think it would be rude of her to approach her uncle about not giving them a gift. First of all she invited him to her wedding beause they wanted him there not for his gift. And secondly, you have a year to send a gift..

Technically, he has 1 year to give a gift. Although I do not agree with this etiquette, a lot of people choose to do it this way. Also, maybe he purchased soemthing & it didn't arrive yet? I know that may sound like a cop out, but it does happen.

Approaching him is not in the best of taste (although not even getting a card is pretty harsh too). Maybe he just forgot & will send them something later?

can her husband mention it to his parents and maybe they can say something?

I would like to think that he just forgot, or maybe even worse, it got lost at the reception.
If he didn't intend to give a gift, I would think that he would at least just give a card.
I say ask the husbands parents what they think - they probably know him best.
If not, then just leave it as is - who wants to go around asking for a gift and hurting people's feelings, you know?

thishappened to my sister. theres nothing you can do.. he might haver forgotten it and will mail it, he might not have brought one or maybe did not intend to give one. whatever the case you cant go asking for it, unfortunately you have to let this one go

I agree unfortunately, you've gotta let it go. If he intended to give a gift at all he'll get it to you.
