missliss (Alissa) ARE YOU HERE??? I NEED HELP!

Does anyone know the ins and outs of mail merging? I can get to a certain point and then I am lost.......

HELP!!!!!

I can TRY to help. I know how to use it when I am doing it but to describe it is different. I usually run into my own probelms as well. What can I TRY to help with?

I am stuck... I followed the help instructions but I can only get to Step 3.

I have all my guests on an Excel sheet and then when I select that document, it says

<>

What does that mean??

Clarification: It says in all the boxes where the labels are

Have you tried the 'update lables' tab? That is what I do in word when I get to that point and it works. I don't know about excel.

That's good. If you are in the mail merge wizard, with the tool bar on the right hand side click the next step at the bottom ('set up your labels' or something) then you put in an address block and match the fields. Once done with that, you go next again and preview your labels and that names will show up...

ETA: just means that once you have formatted the first label, all the others will just do the same, but with the next listing in your excel file

I am using Word for my mail merge but then when it says to 'select recipents' I clicked 'use exisiting list'

Then I hit browse and pulled up my excel sheet of addresses and names. That's when a little box pops up and it is a miniture version of my excel sheet and I can click on check marks next to people's names (like if I didn't want to include someone).

When I click OK, it says <> in all the label boxes on my Word document.

Right. Now you need to go to the next step in the Wizard...at the bottom of the side bar should be like 'Next: set up labels' or something like that....

ETA: It's 'Next: Arrange your labels' (Step 4 of 6)

Yes--once you arrange the labels then you click 'Update Labels' or something and it will change all the next records to the arrangement of the first label

OOOOOOOO did that, but now I only have people's first and last names in the boxes....

It says 'Dr and Mrs Eddie Abbott' but no address.

Where did I mess up?

If you right click on and choose edit address block or update address block...then in the window that comes up, choose 'Match Fields' at the bottom of the box, and you have to choose the matching fields for each field you need (like First Name, Last Name, Address 1, etc). Then once you are done with that, you can do 'Update' on the side bar, then go to the next step (Preview your labels) to make sure they look right...you can always go back and change it if need be!

I thing you should have did the address blioc thing before you udated or previewed lables. you should see like 3 or 4 times in the field then preview lables.
