I am considering giving my girls a few optopns of dresses to choose from.
Is it weird to have chiffon, organza, and satin mixed together?

Re: Mix and Matching BM's dresses
Not sure but try having your girls go in and try on the three fabrics. I think thas the best way to see if they will work.

Re: Mix and Matching BM's dresses
I love the idea of different dresses however i strongly feel that you should pick a designer, fabric and color to work with. Even if you pick color within the same manufacturer, the difference in material will produce a variation in the shades of color. Satin has a sheen to it, chiffon will look a bit lighter as will organza...stick to one material! JMO

Do you think chiffon and organza are close enough?

You can see how they look together but sometimes when you put dresses together with different material, they sometimes take on different looks. Godd luck!!

I love the idea of different dresses but I am really not sure about mixing the fabrics. But thats just my opinion!! Have your girls try them on and see what you think with the dresses on.

personally, i wouldn't mix fabrics, but that totally doesn't mean you shouldn't!!! if that's what you want then go for it!! just make sure you see all of them in their dresses at the same time and like the way it looks.

Re: Mix and Matching BM's dresses
I agree with the other girls and be hesitant to mix fabrics. There's so many options though within the same fabric that I don't think it will be a problem for you to stick with one fabric. For instance, I found about 6 Bill Levkoff dresses in tissue taffeta that were tea-length with a complementary-colored sash. I chose 4 of those 6 for my bridesmaids to choose from.

I think you should have them all the same fabric and same color. The styles can then be different. That's what I'm doing.

My friend did this and I think it looked fine. Her girls wore different shades of light and medium blue in all the different fabrics you mentioned. Here is pic. I photoshopped it to protect privacy. Hope it Helps.

I think it could be cool. But I agree, have them all tried on together!

Re: Mix and Matching BM's dresses
It depends on the color, imo. The main thing you want to think about, is if they fabrics will clash when photographed. For example, chiffon is a thin, flowy, matte fabric. Satin is a thicker, shiny, more structured fabric. If you do silk satin (flowy satin) it will be shiny and the chiffon will be matte. You basically want to see how the different fabrics look next to each other in person, and in photographs.

I'm sorry but I don't think this looks fine at all.

Yeah i have to agree...Im not a huge fan of the way that looks...im all for non-uniformity but I feel like that may be a bit much. But to each her own!

Thats ok. Its a matter of taste I suppose. I posted to give the bride a visual of what she is imagining. I think its a pretty good example.

Here's a pic from TWOTY 09. They did a mix of fabrics and colors. Silk shantung and satin, and I'm not sure what the other one was.
As far as the specific fabrics you've mentioned, chiffon and organza are both flowy fabrics that could work nicely together. In terms of the satin (either kind of satin) you would want to photograph it to see. Just like in the picture the other xela posted, you see some fabrics are shiny, some aren't, some are one color, some another, and it doesn't look cohesive at all. There are ways to mix fabrics and make it work! Feel free to FM me the pics of the dresses you're considering, and the colors and all. I will be more than happy to help! I did something 'different' with my bm dresses too, so I do feel what you're going for. Good luck!!

Re: Mix and Matching BM's dresses
I think that even if you pick the same color in different fabrics it changes the shade and hue of the color and thus no longer looks like the same color. You end up with a mismatch look... all over the place (shanty?)... different colors and fabrics and dresses... it just looks like a group showed up in silimiar colored dresses but they aren't necessarily part of the BP.
The only way it would be OK to have different fabrics is if they are all similiar fabrics. Like the TWOTY pic posted... those dresses might be different materials... BUT THEY ARE SOOO SIMILIAR... different types of silk that all look pretty much the same.
I think it's fine to do different colors or different dresses... but the fabric should match; whether it's the same exact fabric or super similiar fabrics so much that it looks the same.
I also do not really care for the look of that BP in the blue dresses, but thanks for posting it... because it helps visualize the points being made on this thread. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Re: Mix and Matching BM's dresses
My girls are doing same fabric and length but their choice dress. In my honest opinion, I don't like the idea of different fabrics but you can always make the fabrics as close to each other as possible like the TWOTY pic above...
