Hi everyone and happy thanksgiving! Looking to go dress shopping with my mom and FMIL on LI when we are next there doing wedding stuff -- can anyone tell me where they have had good experiences. We could go to Brooklyn or Long Island or the city but would prefer LI and NYC. Price is open but I would think we would like to get something pretty simple and elegant that she could wear again. Wedding will be quite elegant so in keeping with that, a floor length dress with minimal frou frou for the moms. Thanks guys!

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
My mom, grandmother and 2 aunts all got their dresses for my wedding at Totally You in Merrick. They raved about the selection and service and their dresses were reasonably priced and beautiful. My mom looked all over for a dress and definitely recommends Totally You. Good luck!

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
I got mine at Bethpage Bridals but I could have saved significantly at RK Bridal in NYC. I'd seen a gown I loved at Huntington Bridal on 110 in Huntington but I thought it was too expensive. Then I saw the same dress at Macy's Bridal at the Smithhaven mall for $160 more!!! . So obviously, I'm not recommending Macy's.

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
I bought mine at The Elegant Bride on Willis Ave. in Albertson. They had a lovely selection that was not too matronly looking, and their prices were very good.

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
My mom got hers at Lord & Taylor's. I think the store on Fifth Ave has a bigger selection.
There's also estelles on 110.

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
Flowerama in Elmont has a HUGE selection of MOB/G dresses and they are SOOO nice. Christine was great!
I DO NOT AT ALL reccomend SugarPlum in Lynbrook. FM me if you want details.

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
Do they have to go to Bridal stores? What's wrong with just a fancy dress store. or even dress department of Macy's or something like that? It might be easier, and cheaper. JMO.

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
My mom got her dress at Macy's Bridal Salon and because I got my bridesmaid dresses there she got 10% off. Really wasn't much but it's better then nothing. I think they had a great selection and everyone was soo helpful. I cried when I saw my mom in her dress. The only thing negative was, her dress was as much as mine

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
Though I haven't ordered my gowns just yet, I'm getting both at The Wedding Center in Commack. I was very happy and satisfied with the attention I had received from Helene. I told her what I needed, had in mind and the colors and she came up with the perfect gowns. The first gowns she choose for each wedding were the last ones that she gave me to try on and it was it. Perfect!
My son is being married in July, an upstate NY outdoor wedding and my daughter's is in October, very formal LI wedding. I needed to chose 2 completely styles, fabric weight, formality to suit each wedding.
I have found the gown for my sons wedding here (upstate NY) but it was $30 more than on LI. So you know that I will be purchasing mine from The Wedding Center.

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
Momneedstissues, I was at The Wedding Center quite recently. I'd love to know which gowns you selected. Do you know who makes them? Are pictures of them online? I ordered a Jovani for my daughter's wedding but don't know what I'll do for my son's wedding. Both affairs are going to be very formal. After going to 17 bridal stores (said rather embarrassed), I feel like I saw them all. LOL!

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
The only trouble we had with Dept stores and regular dress stores is that all their dresses were the wrong season. They told us to come back in Feb, but if we wound up ordering a dress, then that would be too late. That is the only reason bridal salons make a difference, since they carry every season and every formality.

Plus, Bethsiar, who wants to chance a guest showing up with the same dress as the Mom?

Re: MOB and MOG dresses
LI mom: I received your FM yesterday but this computer at my office is giving me so many problems.
this is the gown that I'm wearing for my daughters October wedding, except the color is in eggplant. I think the picture doesnt' do much for the gown, but its beautiful and ever so flattering. The gown is a one piece but appears to be a two piece. I just love the train that it has in the back which is a different fabric and is noticeable. The designer, I guess is MonCheri. This is the first gown that my daughter chose and the last one to try on and when I came out of the dressing room, the salewoman, my daughter, my mom, and maid of honor all said the same at the same time 'this is it'. I felt so good in it, though it was a bazillion sizes to small... I fell in love with it.
The other gown for my son's July wedding is a Glatter and Sims but for some reason I can not get on their site. That will be mint green or mauve.
