so far neither my mom or FMIL have even started looking for their dresses. Both say they want to lose weight first but now being under 6 mths i am just wondering if I still have time or if they should be looking now?

I have the same situation. Neither of them started looking because they want to lose weight. Hopefully they will have time to find something and get alterations if needed.

I dont think there is a real time frame for their dresses. its not like its being ordered on the most part and they have to wait for months for the order to come in. I would start nudging them towards starting to shop around, esp my own mom

I think they should order soon. Some designers take a bit of time and then with alterations, it may take a while. I think they should just look and see what styles/designers they like. They can see how long the designer needs prior to the wedding. My mom is looking right now. Narrowed it down to two and will hopefully order by Jan.

My mom ordered hers 6 months before but it came in in 3 months. You still has some time.

My mom and FMIL both have their dresses. I think your mom and FMIL need to at least start looking.
Remind them, they can always take the dress in if they lose weight!
