MOB/MOG dresses? off the rack?

MOB/MOG dresses? off the rack?

My mom was planning to go to a department store and pick a nice dress of the rack. I think it is a great idea especially because my mom isn't a super dressy person and I didn't think she needed a full gown. Is this weird? Will she looked underdressed if she doesn't get one from a bridal designer.? I feel like this is a silly question, but I want to hear your opinions....

I've heard of it before..... especially b/c some moms feel that the MOB/MOG dresses are too matronly... I personally don't think it's weird.

go to nordstroms and estelles in farmingdale.... both have great off the rack options..... and you can even get off the rack dresses that you would normally have to order at estelles...

Definitely check out Estelle's for her. They have some really great dresses there!

You can go any department store and get a gorgeous gown off the rack.

My mom's going to do that, as she wants to lose weight before the wedding, so she doesn't want to have to order some dress months in advance and have it not fit when it shows up. Besides, you can definitely buy great dresses off the rack. It's what most people do for formal occasions that aren't weddings. Besides, my wedding is only semi-formal, so my mom doesn't need to go crazy buying some gown, I'd rather have something she can wear again to parties.

Nordstrom has some great stuff. They have a 'Wedding Shop' online with MOB/MOG dresses. Have her check out the website to get started, and then go to the store.

you don't HAVE to go to a bridal shop to get a nice MOB dress!

we just went to estelle's this past week, and got my mom's dress. i have no problem saying she spent $109 on it...and is having it altered to fit her a little better. straight off the rack...and she's gonna look fabulous in it!

My mommy did that.. We went to estelles.. she found one she loved in 10 colors.. hardest part was picking a color!
off the rack is a great, non expensive (or less expensive rather) way to do it!
she will look stunning!

places to try: lord and taylor, estelles, macys, bloomingdales...

my mother did not buy from a bridal salon, but it wasnt off the rack.. it was not the typical 'matronly' mob dress.... Meika in Woodbury is great and also metamorphisis in st james

Agreed... some also feel that MOB/MOG dresses can be a bit overdone / gaudy. Of course, this doesn't apply to ALL of them.

My mom also plans to look in Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor. She did find a gorgeous dress at Lillette's, but she's not sold on it, yet.

I don't think it's weird at all. Most of those stores sell evening gowns.

I don't think it's a bad idea. It's whatever she feels more comfortable in.

Both my mom and my MIL bought their dresses off the rack at Nordstrom. They had a really nice selection and having seen MOB/MOG dresses in bridal stores I think what my mom ended up with was much nicer. You just need to look around and see what you like and if its off the rack so what, you just want your mom to look great.

Off the rack is fine! Try Lord & Taylor...they always have sales and there are always coupons available!

This is definitely ok! My mom has found some real contenders at Lord & Taylor and Estelle's.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I knew thats what I wanted her to do, but the last few weddings I was at the MOB/MOG had gowns from various bridal designers... I started second guessing going to the department stores. My mom will look beautiful no matter what she's wearing (as long as she doesn't cry too much)

My mom bought off the rack for my brother's wedding and will do it for mine too.

That is a great way to do it. Both my mom and mog got there dresses in Lord and Taylor. Many stores have just as nice gowns as bridal boutique's
