MOG's Boyfriend

MOG's Boyfriend

My FH's parents are divorced and FMIL has been dating a man for about 10 years (while he has always been around at family functions, etc. and is a really nice guy he hasn't really been a 'father figure' to my FH). My FMIL asked last night if we would mind getting her boyrfriend a boutonniere. She explained that it would mean a lot to her to make him seem like an important part of our lives on our wedding day. I personally don't mind and don't think that my FH minds either but we don't want to hurt his dad's feelings. Plus we don't really know if it is 'appropriate'. Any thoughts?

I don't know what the etiquette is for this. But if you guys don't mind, then I don't think it will be a problem. Is his Dad sensitive to these things? I'm not sure if a lot of men notice these little details, although he may. I'm sorry, I'm no help.

If he's been around for 10 years, the appropriateness factor, IMO, should be out the window. I think it would be a nice gesture for the boyfriend, would your FH be uncomfortable to talk to his dad about it? Maybe you can get a smaller, or different kind of bout for the boyfriend, so they're not the same???

Good luck!

I think it would be fine to get him a boutonniere to go with his mom's corsage. As long as his dad also gets one and it's made clear as to who your FH's father really is. HTH!!

I'm sure it is ok. I would just make sure that his real dad gets a different boot to be special.

I would do it. He has been a part of your FI and FMIL's life, plus she specifically asked, so it is important to her. Not knowing what your FI's dad is like it is hard to say if it would bother him, my guess would be he wouldn't care, but there may be hard feelings there I don't know. It seems like a little thing though.
Good Luck!

FH parents are separated as well, and I will be getting a boutinnere (sp?) for FMIL boyfriend and FFIL.

There shouldnt be any hurt feelings.........after all, its just a flower.

Especially since they have been together so long, its the right thing to do.

Thank you all so much! I think it's a great idea to get a different flower for him.

My parents are seperated and my dads girlfriend is getting a corsage and moms boyfriend is getting a bout-but they are going to be different from dads and moms.

As long as it doesn't bother your FH I would do it. He's been around a long time with your FMIL and should be counted. It's not like he's a complete schmuck or anything. His Dad should understand. Is his Dad remarried or does he have a GF? You can always get her a corsage to even things out.

You probably should, since I'm assuming your mother will be escorted in by him.
