How did you guys choose your Maid of Honor? I am trying to decide on my bridal party, and here is my dilemna. I haven't asked anyone to be in my bridal party yet.
Right now I have it as my 3 Sisters, my Sister in law, and my FH's Sister. I would have loved to have my friends, but with 3 sisters, it would have been too big, since we are having a smaller wedding.
My 3 Sisters are all older, married and have kids. I'm not too close with FH's sister b/c she lives upstate and don't see her too often. I would like to choose one of my sisters, but how do i choose which one, w/o hurting them? They won't make a big deal out of it, but I still know they would be thinking about it. They tell me I can ask my friends to be in the wedding, and I don't need to have them, but I want my sisters in my wedding!!
Then I thought maybe I could ask my best friend, but how do I ask her, w/o asking the rest of our group of friends to be in the bridal party?? Again these are not people who make a big deal of it, but I don't want to hurt them either.
And of course my mom is asking me at Easter yesterday all of these things lol. I have no idea!

Re: MOH??
Typically the MOH is the sister if one is available.
BUT
everyone's situation is different and i'm def not having my sister as my MOH lol.
Is there 1 specific friend of yours who, as childish as it sounds, you consider your BFF? If there is then imo i'd make her the MOH. Your friends will understand esp since the rest of ur bp consist of your family.

Re: MOH??
I think that you should choose girls that are close to your for your bridal party and not because it's your FH sister.
That being said. If you want all your 3 sisters in your bridal party and lets say you have 3 more slots to fill, I would choose based on who is the closest to me. This would include a 'best friend.' As to who you would choose to be your MOH, it would have to be whoever really is closer to you and who you share mostly everything with. If that's your best friend then she should be MOH, if it's sis #1 then her and so forth.
ETA: I don't have a sister but if I did I would not pick her as my baby's godmother. I feel that 'family' already plays an important role in my life, that I would like to give certain titles to a 'bff' to show her how important she is in my life. (I would have done the same if I had a sister when choosing my MOH).

Re: MOH??
Have any of your sisters been MOH for anyone yet? If so, I choose one that hasn't.
I have two older sisters, much older (10 and 14 years). One is married, the other is not. They actually thought I was going to choose a friend to be MOH so I wouldn't have to choose between the two of them.
However, I'm NOT choosing between the two of them. They're BOTH going to be MOH's.
My plan growing up was that since middle sister was oldest sister's MOH when she got married, I would be middle sister's MOH and then oldest sister would be mine. BUT.....middle sister is NEVER going to get married, so that throws my plan out the window So I just told them both that they're going to be MOH's.

Re: MOH??
Who ever you feel will be the most reliable and helpful to you on your day.
My little sister is my MOH because she is my best friend and knows me better then anyone else.

but my friend was in this same situation as you with 4 sisters lol all maried with kids
and honestly she just had them all put their name in a hat and just picked one while they were all there, there was no way she could just choose one, and it worked out

Re: MOH??
Thanks! My whole fam is really close. I thought of the whole if one hasnt been MOH yet, choose that one, but 1 of them was actually MOH for the other 2, and I was the MOH for her wedding. So 2 of them haven't been MOH yet.
I'm definitely not going to choose FH sister, I just wasn't sure if it was better to just choose my friend and have her be the only nonfamily member, or somehow choose one of my sisters. They are much older, like 12,10 and 9 yrs older than me.

Re: MOH??
I choose my older and younger sister to be my MOH's and my closest friend from college is my Matron of Honor and then I have a cousin, one childhood friend, and college buddy as my BM's.
I went with who I was closest too and who I feel I have the most connection with to pick my BP. But hands down my sister and my cousin were always going to be in the BP.

Re: MOH??
If you are close with both of them I say either pick from a hat and whatever it is, it is... Or I agree with some of the other posts if you have a BFF chose her. I don't think your other friends can be angry if you chose one friend soley as your MOH.

Re: MOH??
My MOH is my older, and only, sister who it wasn't very hard to choose. I am so happy I have a sister, because I don't know who I would have chosen to be my MOH! Good Luck!

Re: MOH??
I went to a wedding where there was not ONE MOH. The bride had 2 sisters and a sister in law all married and with kids. All wore the same dresses. When walking down the aisle they each walked in with their daughters who were the flower girls and one walked in with the ring bearer (her son).
At the RH the entire bridal party (guys and girls) walked in with their families. It was the cutest thing!!

Re: MOH??
Since you said you have 3 married sisters, did one of them ask you to be her MOH? Maybe that would help you narrow it down. If none did, then maybe have your BFF.
I have no sisters, so I just picked my 2 BFFs

Re: MOH??
I havent choosen one yet. I have 3 bridesmaids but no MOH. I dont have any sisters and my best friend who is also the godmother to both of my children is a bridesmaid. She is the closest thing i have to a sister but honestly she is not dependable. I'm a little afraid to ask her to be my MOH becasue of the duties that come along with that. I really dont know what to do. Do you HAVE to have one or is it ok that i have my daughter stand with me....she will be 12 at the time

Re: MOH??
Whoever you are closest to. You don't have to pick a sister all because you have one. I chose my MOH because she is my longest friend, since childhood, and she's always been there for me. I haven't chosen the rest of my BP yet. I'm not sure if I'm having one yet.

Re: MOH??
See...for this reason, FH is not having a BM and I am not choosing a MOH. I couldn't choose. Bad enough only 1 of my sisters are in my wedding (my bro is in it too), but I had to choose which one. I literally flipped a coin. I asked them to choose and they did, and they were both satisfied and no one was hurt. If you need to have a MOH...I would pick one of their names out of a bag in front of them. Honestly...my sisters laughed at me but thought it was so cute b/c I couldn't choose.

Re: MOH??
FH picked a best man, and I picked an MOH, but we're having the WORST time with the rest of the party. I'm an only child.. so I only have friends to choose from (I'm much, much younger than my cousins).
We have no idea what we're going to do, and we need to decide soon!

Re: MOH??
My situation was complicated but in the end I have my cousin. She is someone that is dependable, trustworthy, and able to handle the position. She is also someone I am very close to and wants to be there (both at my wedding and as my MOH) and help out as much as she can. To you, does one of your sisters have any quality that would put her above the others for the position?
You can talk to them and see if any of them do not want the position. I have two sisters. Luckily the younger of the two told me in a round about way she did not want the position (even before I asked). She would only be 18 at my wedding and it is too much responsibility for her.
As for having one friend out of the three you mention, Is there one friend that again, you are closer to? I'm sure the other 2 will understand that you only want a small Bridal party and you didn't want to choose between your sisters for MOH position. This, in my opion, I would only feel comfortable doing if I could clearly decide that one was better suited/ closer to me so that I wouldn't feel bad about not having the other two in the party.
Sorry this was long. hope something I said has some helpful value. I'm sure all will work out!
