My FMIL saw a show on the Mohonk Mountain House on the travel channel and suggested that we should check it out for our homeymoon. Has anyone ever been there and what is is like??? Is it worth the price??? We planned on going to Vegas and staying at the Bellagio for a week in September...

Re: mohonk mountain house
I've been there a few of times. It is beautiful and very relaxing. We go hiking, rowing, swimming in the indoor, heated pool, couples massage at the spa etc. The food is just okay, for the cost of staying there it should be better. Also keep in mind this place is the total opposite of Vegas. No nightlife really at all--couple of drinks at the bar after dinner and that's it. There are also no televisions in the room, not sure if you can request one. But it is a romantic and beautiful place to spend some quiet time. We love it there and try to go every year or so.

I've heard good things - I had this location on possible wedding site locations. Although if I had to chose b/w Vegas and there, I would pick Vegas. Mohonk is isolated and depending on the time of year it has a lot of families - and not alot to do at night. Although - if you are the outdoors type there are gardens and trails.

I've been there a couple of times and I love it! This is actually where my FH proposed to me.
It's extremely relaxing and romantic. The rooms with the fireplaces are so cozy. Plus, the food is amazing and there are tons of activities, including their own ice skating rink.
I think it's a beautiful place for a honeymoon (as long as you don't mind being at a family-oriented place).
Good luck planning!

Re: mohonk mountain house
I havent been there myself but was looking at it as a possible wedding site, but it was too far from the city, and expensive for that much traveling - price they quoted starts at $95/pp! :P
A friend of mine went there twice and said it's beautiful.
Another place I saw which is nice for a getaway - http://www.skytop.com. :)

Re: mohonk mountain house
I was there about 100 years ago with my first husband. I thought it was absolutely beautiful, but boring as hell!!!
Maybe it was the company I was keeping, but they rolled up the sidewalks at night

My FH proposed to me there too, what was your date for the girl who got enagaged there? I was engaged on Oct 30 2005. Mohonk is awesome, but that time of year will be crowded with children. I have been there 4 times and can't wait to go back..

Re: mohonk mountain house
Thanks everyone, I don't think that we will be going there. It looks beautiful but I think that we would be too bored by the end of the week. It would probably be better for a nice little weekend getaway!!!
