I'm wondering if any of you girls have had any experiences w/ this. In our bedroom (very old building in queens), in the corner by my side of the bed, there's this cr@p growing, looks almost like the paint is peeling and/or bubbling. It seems to be getting worse and it's really gross. Is this mold??? I think it might be making my FH's asthma/allergies worse. What do we do about it? Any help or advice would be appreciated. I want out of this apartment so bad!!

Sometimes that can be VERY dangerous....I don't mean to sound dramatic, but people have gotten very sick from similar situations with mold growing... I would suggest to get it checked out ASAP. My FH has asthma as well and I am sure it can be aggrivated by this.....

I'm afraid to touch it....doesn't it go into the air if you scrape it off? I'm so clueless but want it fixed!! I also don't want to do anything that could be dangerous to us.

I saw a story on this on TV (not sure what show) but it can be VERY dangerous. Talk to your landlord ASAP

Do you rent? You may be able to get someone to inspect it either from the Health Dept or DEP for free if you rent, or if someone else is repsonsible. I don't have a phone #, but look them up and see if they can do somtehing. the other option is to find a private liscensed inspector and pay them. I agree that this can be a health hazard.

I agree with everyone here, it is DANGEROUS of course if it is mold and because it's in the bedroom makes it worse because if you would of said BATHROOM I think the reaction would be this dramatic.
You should have the super come and take a look at it, and what every caused it will come back unless you fix the problem. Let us know what it is, I'm courious, we rent in Queens too!

We rent. FH is home today, so I'm going to have him call the landlady and have her look at it and do something about it immediately. We've had it for awhile but I think I've been so distracted w/ other stuff to do anything about it, but FH asthma and allergies are not good and want to find out if this is making it worse for him.

I agree-get it checked out ASAP. I saw a special on tv once of this mold that can cause severe breathing problems. It is a black mold, I think it's called lichen mold and it can only be removed by a professional because it can keep growing back.
