mom does't think this will work

hi girls,
last night my mom saw my dress for the first time. i was trying on head peices, i like the tiara style and all of a sudden she and my grandmother were saying how the one that i liked was good because you could pile all the hair on top of my head and it would look so nice blah blah blah. so i said how i wanted my hair to be really simple, parted on the side and back in a low bun, with the tiara. well, both my mom and my nan were saying 'no, that won't work.' so now i'm stumped. does anyone have any pictures of this kind of style, with a head peice as well as a veil. thanks for your help!!

Okay, I like the idea of the bun (very elegant) however, I'm with mom and grandma on this one. I think if you're going to do a veil and a tiara the looser hair style may look better. JMO- why don't you try both and form your own opinion. You are really the only one that can decide because it's YOUR wedding.

I TOTALLY disagree. There is no problem with a low bun. The hair piled is so common. Take a look at the celebrity brides. They never wear their hair piled. I think your idea is simple and elegant.

IMO I feel it depends on what shaped face you have..that usually determines if the bun should be high or low on your head, to compliment you...but in the end do what you feel your most comfortable with..

I'm wearing a tiara and a veil, and want a low bun. Hair piled on top is just not me. Wear your hair however you want.

This is the style that I looove and have my heart set on:

jvs77--I LOVE LOVE LOVE that hairstyle! I wasn't thinking 'bun' @ all, but I think I am now! BEAUTIFUL! How do you think it would look with that bun and then little strands coming down on the sides? Nothing drastic

endlessluv - Isn't it gorgeous!? I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! I think little pieces on the side would be very pretty! Do you mean a few shorter pieces framing the face, or longer, curled, tendril like pieces? Try it both ways when you go for a hair trial and see what you like best! I think I'm going to forgo the pieces, I had tendrils for my prom - and want something different.

Ack- I am so excited for my wedding! And I have exactly 11 months to go!! I'm going to drive poor FH crazy!

are you going to wear a veil? if so where would it go?

Re: mom does't think this will work

I think I'm going to wear my veil right above, or maybe 1 or 2 inches above the bun. But not right behind the tiara. I want my veil behind me flowing back, not poofy or high, and not getting in my face!

I'm going to get to see my dress this Saturday (YAY!!!) and will bring my veil and tiara with me to try on. If you want, I can send you a pic of how the veil and tiara looks with a low bun. (It will just be a normal bun, I'm not talented enough to do the basket weave one on my own.)

I want to see pics!!! Congrats on your dress! Are you picking it up?? I would love to see tons of pics!!

for the hair i was thinking just little straight strands-nothing too thick-i don't want any curls whatsoever-i hate my hair in curls! maybe instead of the strands i will do a 'band' of hair across my forehead-i really don't want my whole forhead showing--OMG! I Just remembered my friend who got married last weekend had her hair like this--i have to find a pic when i get home! It looked BEAUTIFUL!

i would love to see a pic. i was thinking the same thing about the veil. my mom seems to think that it would mess up my hair when i went to take it out. hmmm. are you going to leave the veil in the whole day? i really didn't want to.

Re: mom does't think this will work

endlessluv - you could probably do a pretty sweep of hair partially across your forehead with that bun! I got my bun idea from the hairstyle thread - it's awesome!

I actually bought my dress back in July. It was a trunk show sample, so I had to take it home with me from day one. I need to have it taken in a lot, so, it has been with my seamstress, Karin Y, (recommended by the ladies on this board!) since August. Thank goodness she is storing it for me! (I originally had it in FH's closet - which he was banned from - ) I'm going to see Karin on Sat. for a fitting. I'm nervous. She has to pretty much take my dress apart at the seams, cut pieces off, and sew it back together!! Thank goodness it's a very simple dress. We're going to start the 'nitty gritty' fittings about 3 months before my wedding. I'm really not sure what my dress will look like on Sat. - my Mom said it may be 'basted' together with big stitches....so, it may very well look awful!! I have to try to keep the final product in mind so I don't get too upset!

I send you some pics too! Hopefully, I won't look awful! If they come out halfway decent, maybe I can even get the courage up to post them for everyone!

Re: mom does't think this will work

embee - I'll definitely send you pics too!

At this point, I do plan on wearing my veil for the whole day. It's not too long, it's two tier with a blusher and fingertip layer. I want it farther back so it does not annoy me and get in my face. But - if it does start to annoy me - off it goes!!

I don't think that taking the veil off will mess up your hair. You can probably put it on in such a way that it won't mess your hair up if you were to take it off (less hairspray, that kind of thing). Ask your hair stylist about it.

I totally agree!

You're looking for Chignon or French Chignon - not necessarily a 'bun'. You can google to find lots of ideas - that's definetly a classic, elegant look. (I'm tossing it around too - depends on the length of my hair by next year.)

awesome ideas on that thread! THANKS! I am sure your dress will be fine! I think I would be a little freaked too, though! Have you gone for a hair trial yet? I'm so confused! I don't know who to go to or what to do with it! I guess I should get a veil & tiara first!

Re: mom does't think this will work

No, I haven't had a hair trial yet. My uncle is a hair stylist, so he will be doing my hair (and my Mom's and bridal party too - as part of my wedding gift!). I showed him that bun pic (it's in my wedding ideas scrapbook) and he loved it too!

I think most girls do pick their veil and tiara before having a hair trial. If you have a bun set high on your head, you may want to get a bun wrap instead of a tiara. So, having a general idea of what you want to do with your hair may help when choosing a tiara, or other headpiece.

ETA: You can have a bunch of hair trials to help you choose! Just start looking through hairstyle pictures, and envisioning you in your dress, and what looks you want to try out. Then bring these ideas with you for your trials.

Re: mom does't think this will work

that's so nice of your uncle!
i don't know why i said tiara--i dont' want a crown type-i want a regular headpiece-very simple-perhaps with bagettes sp?! to kinda match my ring-is that dumb?! LOL FH said he likes the simple round ones with flowers-he doesn't like the high ones-which is good because i prefer a regular one too!

Re: mom does't think this will work

By regular hairpiece, do you mean a hairband type, that will sit against your head? (Those are pretty!) I don't think I've seen one with baguettes...but you never know!

I have finally gotten over my dress doubt (I'm a horribly indecisive Libra), but have found myself having tiara doubt lately! Which is not good, b/c I spent too much on it! I'm hoping that I'll come to some kind of conclusion when I try everything on Sat.
