It's my fault I guess because FH and I are not paying for the reception. Mom has agreed to pay for the reception and FH and I are going to pay for everything else. As it stands ILs are not chipping in at all. But since mom is paying for the reception she has decided that where SHE wants to have it is where SHE will have it. She has apparently fallen in love with the Irish Coffee Pub (first off the name turned me off) but I conceeded to see the place. Has anyone gotten married there? The wedding would be on the top floor but there seems to be only one bathroom....which is on the main floor which is shared by the restaurant. Another thing is that I specifically chose labor day weekend because the weather would be nice and that I could get married outside. Has anyone seen the outdoor area for the ceremony? It's a small deck and standing room only. Maybe I'm overreacting because I had my heart set on the Riviera and let me tell you the price difference between the two isn't all that big (4 dollars a plate). Considering I FH and I will be contributing a substantial amount of money I figured I'd have a say in all of this (guess I was wrong Anyone else have these issues or am I the only one with an unreasonable mom?

Re: Mom has taken over wedding
Remember it is your wedding. This is something that you are going to look back on and remember....Your mom already has hers to remember....if you want the riviera go for it....what about offering to pay the extra $4 if that is really the issue.
Go with what YOU want. If not, you will probably regret it

I'd pout and cry for riveria. Merciless I know.. but its YOUR day.. have it your way..
Sometimes Moms are just so hard to get through to. She'll have all her reasons.. but this is the one day you should just have it YOUR way. So pull out all the stop and get it!

No, i really don't think it's the $4...she just seemed more impressed with the menu...and she seems to think you get way more food at the Irish Coffee Pub. I tried to explain that even if the food is a little more lavish there, there are way too many undesirables in the equation. No private bridal bathroom, scenery, ceremony location, and if my elder guest dont want to walk up and down the stairs to use the bathroom they have to use the gated service elevator that hold only two people. It seems that from the moment I started planning this wedding it has been one battle after another and it certainly is not fun. When does it start getting fun ladies? My mother thinks I need medication because I have crying sporadically. I thank my lucky stars that my FH is so supportive.
I also an torn because she makes me feel like I'm being selfish for wanting what I want. Isn't it alright to be a little selfish on this day?

My friend got married at the Riviera a few months ago- YOU WILL NOT GO HUNGRY!!! The food was REALLY GOOD! AND it's beautiful! If you really want it, FIGHT FOR IT!!!!

Not to sound rude, but maybe try explaining to your mother that it is your wedding and you would really like to have it at the Riviera. Trying not be impartial here, but I happen to LOVE the room and I know I could not see my wedding anywhere else. Does your Mom get that this is your wedding? I would be extremely selfish to have it at the place you want!!!!

i would talk to her, it's your wedding, no matter who's paying. you are only going to do this once, don't look back and wish you did things differently. good luck!
