Mom tried to sell son

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (July 9) - A mother has been charged with trying to sell her toddler son for $500 so she could buy a stash of the addictive painkiller OxyContin.

Brianna Marie Burns, 23, could get up to five years in prison if convicted.

Burns' grandmother contacted authorities after Burns allegedly offered to sell her the 2-year-old child. An undercover officer wired the grandmother and provided her with $500 for the exchange, according to police documents.

Burns was arrested Monday after receiving the money and signing custody of the child over to her grandmother. She was being held on $102,500 bond.

Child Protective Services has placed the child with another family member.

OxyContin is a prescription painkiller often given to cancer patients. If chewed, snorted or injected, it produces a quick and potentially lethal high. The drug has been linked to more than 100 deaths.

The sale of a child was a misdemeanor in West Virginia until 1994, one year after a Charleston woman was convicted of trying to sell her 1-month-old baby to undercover officers for $1,400 so she could buy a mobile home. That led the state to change the law, making the crime a felony.

People like that really really bother me. Their are people in this world who want a baby and are either having problems or just cant have children and then their are people who should just not be parents and have children. Why is it so unfair???

You need a license to drive a car, own a gun, even go hunting but anyone can be a parent.

OOOOHHHH!!! get me started and I wont stop. Things like that really bother me.

Chip, I was just gonna post the same thing. We want a baby so badly and I have been going through all kinds of stressful procedures, drugs, surgeries, etc., and someone like this can just spit one out?

Its not fair at all....

two people I used to work with went through the same thing and it broke my heart how hard they were trying and nothing then you would hear of these woman who abandoned their children, drowned their children, hurt them or worse.

I was in DMV the other day and this young couple were so busy arguing with the woman behind the counter their little infant son who had to be a little over a year old was walking around and anyone could have just scooped that little todler up. The couple had no clue that their son was just walking around. I was so mad at them for not paying attention to their son.

I get so mad at people who do things like that to their children.
