mom vent

we took my mom to the photographer today to show her what it will look like and then we were going to sign the contract

mom had a fit as usual about money and how hes trying to con us into more money, and she storms out ...we have it out on the street ---shes yelling at me and walking away, i grab her and tell her to shut up and just listen to me

i explain loudly how this is my wedding , she cant tell me how shes not coming everytime she doesnt agree with something we want

and to top it all off, she tells me to 'hang myself' (nice mother huh?!)

so all the way hoem i lay into her telling her its her choice to come or not come but she is no longer involved in the planning

she cannot treat me like that- im not 16 anymore - i am an adult and she needs to respect my and my fh's decisions

PLEASE tell me that someone else has a bad relationship with their mom ....seems like everyone else is best friends and im jealous

omg thats sooo horrible! question... Is your mom paying for the wedding? if not, is she paying for the photographer?

well I can tell you that my mom and i are far from being 'best friends' and i can totally relate to what you are going through. the only difference is, my mom sorta knows better to say things like that to me or else I would lace into her like there was no tomorrow. lately we have been getting along a little better (probably since she knows I am dishing out everything to pay for this wedding besides the hall) so I cant really complain about her but I can totally relate to what you and your mom are going through. I know that when I have 'had enough' of my mom, I just tend to do things on my own and not involve her in some of the planning because I know its going to end up in an argument. I really do not have any advice for you though, except to maybe let her be for now.

Re: mom vent

I constantly go through this!!!! ... and also pay for myself.

She WANTS to be involved, and keeps asking. But than, when I tell her, she'll start telling me - 'do you need it?', 'can't you live without it?' and constantly makes me feel guilty. But than, she'll turn around and tell me how I should of had MORE flowers?!?!?!!? Hello!!! Do you know how much they cost??? She completely doesn't understand todays prices, and wants MORE for pennies!!!!

I am sorry you had such a bad day with you mom, but you are definately not alone!!!! I know just tell her I have it, and either don't tell her the price.. or, lie!

I know how you feel, my mom is the same way we could neve ever get along, unless the money is to HELP HER out of some problem.
She is not involved in nothing for my wedding, since she has nasty attitude about everything and everyone here in LI she believes that everyone here in Long Island is a snob and many other things... just because she lives in queens AGHHH she drives me insane. But you know what I still love her and even if she is very very nasty to my sister and myself.

Re: mom vent

If you have read any of my other posts you'll know that me and mom's relationship is anything but blissful. Here...I'll vent and let you know that you're not alone....I originally had gone to David's Bridal two weeks ago with my MOH. I found four dresses that looked wonderful on. I just took mom back with me today to narrow it down to 'the one'. From the moment the lady brought the four dresses in it was a war. 'where did those come from? My daugher couldnt have picked THEM because they're UGLY.' Now how was I supposed to be enthusiastic about trying them on when she had already voiced how UGLY they were. I explained that things look better ON then on the hanger. Out of the four she had something negative to say about all of them. She went to the rack and came back with a dress. Picture high neck...short sleeves and lots of BOWS especially a really BIG ONE on my butt. After humiliating me and us leaving she insisted that the dresses were poorly made. I took her to a bridal salon and she proceeded to rant that their prices were insane and she had no intention on paying 2500 for a wedding gown...I knew this already which is WHY I went to David's in the first place....ok...I'll stop now...you're not alone so here's a hug for you...

I am so sorry your Mom is doing this to you (actually all brides who are getting this treatment). But I am glad you told her off. Let's just hope it actually does something to help keep her comments to herself.
My Mom and I get along, but her comment of 'It doesn't look like a bridal gown' as I came out wearing the ONLY dress I have wanted hurt. But I got the dress anyway. Too bad if it isn't her style, it's mine!

Re: mom vent

thank you all!

FH's family has been helping me thru this since we are staying there for the holiday

im going to leave it ...i feel she needs to call me and apologize for her childish and hurtful actions

im not usually one to be like that but in this case- an apology is needed

PS: return hugs for all of you who are telling me your mom stories

Don't feel bad my mom does not want anything to do with this wedding either. I get jealous to when i see my firiends hangout with there mom i get really upset and jealous. LIke i ask my mom about her dress she keeps on tellimg me that she saw a dress at macys so if you did get it. It hurts that they can't be part of the planning part of the wedding.

Re: mom vent

i'm sorry

everytime we book a vendor my mother complains that we're paying way too much for it and at her wedding it was suchandsuch a price. she got married 30 years ago! i dont know why she can't understand that prices go up. my sister is not planning her wedding, she leaves everything up to my mother to find, call, and book. my FH and i are doing everything for ours.. so of course my mother feels left out and wants to do it all. we have completely different tastes and i would wind up hating my wedding.

FH and i just wanted to go to vegas to get married.. and my mother was like do that and then we'll have a jewish ceremony/reception back here. we agreed to it. and now shes trying to make us back out of the vegas wedding. that was the ONE thing we had our hearts set on.

sorry for the rambling, hopefully it made sense. i think all mothers get somewhat crazy when it comes to wedding planning. i dont know why, but it just seems they do.
