MOM-ZILLA!!!

MOM-ZILLA!!!

My mom has informed me today that she picked my father/daughter dance song.. AND SHE WONT TELL ME WHAT IT IS!!!! She says my 'dad' (aka she) gets to pick the song. Which is fine.. But i want a say in the matter. Grrr

And then I tell her what im thinking of for the first dance. And she tells me its a bad choice.... It was Shania Twain's Youve Got a Way. She thinks I need to find a song sung by a man.... Lucky for her FH didnt really like it anyhow and were probably using Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.

After that we were listening to options for Intro songs. And since me and FH are huge islander fans I was thinking of Blur Song 2 for me and him and she says if i play that I will 'lose the old people'.. I dont even know what that means lol.

At least she like my choice for BP entance song of Rock This Town by the Stray Cats. FH is a huge fan.

Since my wedding isnt even for 18 months I fear what is to come.. She has the whole thing planned out in her head... I really hope she doesnt forget that it is my wedding. I let her plan the entire engagement party. She loved it and it was great for me to just show up. But I want the wedding to be personal.. Sorry this is just to vent really. Anyone else have overbearing moms?

Why don't you pick a few songs that you want to dance to with your dad and let your mom pick from those?

Did you try talking to your mom and let her know that you want her help, but decisions will be left up to you and your FH? Maybe she doesn't realize how overbearing she's being?

Good luck

Yeah i told her but she thinks thats the way its supposed to be, so she thinks im wrong. I should get her a MOTB book or something.

oh boy... Get a MOTB that suggests that she only help, not take over and hightlight those points!

you need to be a little more aggressive, honestly i would laugh at someone, yes even my parents if they were trying to tell me what my first dance song should be, intro or anything like that...even father/daughter dance its something you can discuss with your dad, not your moms choice and she can't tell you that you can't know the song, i would be like OK well thats nice but I AM telling the DJ what to play. She is doing it bc she knows she can, don't let her.

you definetly need to have a heart to heart with your mom about this - and without a fight. If you talk to her from your heart and really tell her that your dance with your dad is something that you want to be from YOU, and it means a lot to YOU - she really needs to understand.....

ditto on this....tell her you really appreciate her imput on things, but the final decision you'd like to be up to you & the future hubby. i hope everything works out!

goodness gracious! IMO I think you need to talk to your mother pronto. You still have a long way to go until your wedding and if your mom keeps going the way she is she is going to make you crazy.
I don't think it could hurt to get her a MOB etiquette book. She might get offended, but it is your wedding and the most valuable piece of advice I got from my MIL was don't let anyone tell you how to plan your wedding.
Good Luck and keep us updated we'll be here for you when you need to vent!

Re: MOM-ZILLA!!!

Thank you all for your input. I got my FMIL a book after she asked my mom if she could rent our firehouse hall (which holds up to 500 people, we had our e-party there for 150) for the rehearsal dinner.. lol I dont think she realized that a RD is only for the wedding party and immediate family and not another wedding.
