Mommies: How old was your child when you took your first trip, and where?
I'm thinking that maybe it would be nice to take a mini 1 or 2 day vacation with Matthew this summer. He will be 1 in September. Is this too young to go away? Any suggestions where we could go? Would he actually enjoy anything? Thanks.

No way, my first born was 8 months old when we took her to the Berkshires for a week, and my 2nd daughter was 2 months when we took a trip to a fmaily reunion in Connecticut, she was 6 months old when we went to Montauk and 1 when we went to Disney.
Bring him to Sesame Place, somewhere that he can explore, DON'T go somewhere that is for relaxing only because it ain't gonna happen with a 1 year old. Last year my daughter was 18 months and we went for our usual Montauk vacation which at one time consisted of sitting on the beach with a cooler full of beers and wine and just hang out, not this time, it was a disaster!! We never got to sit once, it was so much work we would of preferred ot stay home.

We are flying thursday to Canada - Angela is 7 1/2 months. My god daughter is turning 1 that's why we're going....hopefully the flight won't be a horror, I'm very nervous. Since she's never slept the night through in anything but her crib, I'm nervous about that too!

We are going to Florida at the end of this month. Isabelle is 6 months old now. I hope she does good on the plane. I know once we get there it won't be a problem because her grandma and grandpa will spoil her and give her mom a well deserved break.

We took Nick to Florida when he was 5 months - I wish we hadn't! The plane trip was totally fine - he was great. We went on the trip with my parents and sister, so I foolishly thought that they would help out a lot and everything would be fine. Well it did not work out that way - everyone was there on vacation, and no one was willing to sacrifice any of their own time to take care of a baby. It was not at all relaxing...no just laying around by the pool or at the beach having drinks, etc. It is all about the baby! And he seemed a little out of sort being away from home, sleeping in a Pack-n-Play, etc. With that said, the trip did have its good moments - taking Nick in the pool for the first time was fun, and LOTS of stroller walks in the nice weather... I think that your son would be fine no matter where you went, but you have to be prepared to spend all of your time with him and not relaxing like you imagine you would be! But you said just one or two days - that would not be bad at all....maybe somewhere with a pool - he would probably love that at his age.

We are heading to Florida on Sunday for a week with Jack who is now 5 1/2 months old. My only worry is being that person on the plane with the screaming baby! Otherwise we are staying with my parents at their condo so it should be ok.
