moms dress
i am absolutely about to loose it on my mother.. she bought a dress which we both loved last month at RK Bridal... and NOW she tells me she doesnt like it and wants a new one.
that dress is not returnable, so she has to find someone to sell it to, consine it, or keep it
EVERY single dress she picks out is horrendous and I cant even talk to her anymore without getting annoyed. SHe is making this so difficult.
and MIL wants to wear red

What are your colors that you wouldn't want her in Red? AND what shade of red are we talking here?

she wants bright red
my BMs are in navy blue, guys are in grey suits, step mom has a black dress, and now i think my mom is going to do a steel grey dupioni... so red would TOTALLLLLYYYYY look ridiculous.
red is a total no-no in the etiquette books! even as a guest your not suppose to wear red, unless the bride says ok... and this bride isnt say ok!

No offense, but I think you're overreacting about the red. Who cares what color she wants to wear? Everyone will be looking at you and not her. As for your mother, if my mom pulled this on me (which is very likely knowing my mother) I'd tell her that she can go search for a new one, but you will not be participating in these outings. You have enough to worry about with your wedding. Trying to find her a dress after she changed her mind about another is just ridiculous.

ahhh yes - My FMIL wanted to wear red at first too but I quickly nipped that in the bud. I dont care if other guests wear red but in my book red is a 'look at me' color, so FMIL now has a very nice neutral
dress.
Edited for horrific spelling

Re: moms dress
im ok w the maroon! or merlot, or bordeaux...the dress she showed me was a bright red gown with a TRAIN.. sorry but your 50+ yrs old. NOT age appropriate and NOT wedding appropriate.
and there is not a single girl on here that can tell me they would let their FMIL wear that dress.
no matter how amazing any bride looks, people will always stare at the mother w the red dress, bc its so awkward!

I agree - bright red with a train is TOO much. I love maroon and merlot! I asked my mom to wear it, but she went with a deep purple. It doesn't come in any other colors?

Re: moms dress
long story short... she showed my FSIL (also a BM) the dress when we first got engaged.. FSIL told her NO way. FBIL said NO WAY.. she has been asking everyone BUT ME if it was ok.. they all say noshe hasnt bought the dress yet but she keeps being passive aggresive about it and wont come straight out and ask me to wear it. So ridic..
i told her i would go shopping soon w her to pick out a dress. but who knows where that will lead. its almost joke w the whole family now

Oh, I would not be ok with that either. Way too much like Scarlet OHara in the red dress and trying to draw attention to herself. Tell her she can plan her own party and be the center of attention! LOL Sorry, I hope that isnt being too snarky. I mean it is your mom and all!

My cousin was very anti-red. I was iffy on the red, but my mom ordered her dress in red. I let her have it becauseA. I don't have to hear her complain about it and
B. It makes her happy, and if she's happy everyone's happy.
No one will be looking at her, they will be looking at me.
It kind of clashes with my Fuschia bridesmaid dresses, but the biggest thing was I didn't want to hear her complain, so I just let her have the red.
