I am completely naive about dresses. Are the Mother's dresses supposed to be the same color as the bridesmaids dresses? Do both bride and groom mothers have to coordinate colors?

Each mom can wear whatever color they want!! They shouldn't match the BMs but they shouldn't clash with them or each other either.
This really only applies if you've got BMs who are going to be in family pics with the moms. The only real rule is not to wear white or ivory bc they shouldn't take away from the bride!!
