ok, my computer is being weird, so if this is all screwed up, i apologize.
anyway, i was wondering if i'm being an ultimate b*tch to my mom, regarding her dress. i live in az, so i couldn't go shopping with her and a few weeks ago, she told me she found THE DRESS. i was really excited for her because she normally has a hard time finding clothes she is comfortable in. i went home for easter this past weekend and finally saw her dress. it's a gorgeous dress, but she bought it in ivory. my dress is ivory, too. we went to the bridal shop to order the BM dresses and she held up the jacket to my dress and it was the exact same color. even the sales girls said, 'no, you can't wear that'. my mom is devastated and almost started crying in the store. I don't know what to do. i really don't want her to wear the same color as me, but i don't want her to just go buy another dress she's uncomfortable in. but is it wrong for me to want her in a different color?

I don't think it's wrong at all. She can wear the same dress, but just in a different color. I'm sure she'll understand.

I agree if she loves the style of the dress then a different color should not be a problem

Is that the only color the dress comes in? She should try to find it in another color!

if they don't have the dress in another color can you get it dyed?
if she loves the dress and feels comfy see if you can do that.

I think your mom should DEFINATELY wear a DIFFERENT color and I don't think you need to explain yourself or feel bad at all!

I agree with the other girls. The bride is the only person that should be wearing white/ivory at the wedding!!

Re: mom's dress (kinda long)
no way, she can't wear ivory
your guests will definitely focus on that and it probably won't be comfortable for her anyway. . .i know that as a guest i would be shocked to see that ( not to be rude but i wouldnt be able to help it)
i understand that you want her to feel comfortable and that is so nice - but i dont think she would feel comfortable taking away any attention from you!
i think she should get the same dress in different colors.

No, she can't wear ivory. it's just, well, wrong! It's not that anyone will mistake her for the bride, but it's just wrong. I'm sure your mom loves the dress, but if she thinks about it a little, I'm sure she'll see the problem. Does the dress come in another color? Can it be dyed? My sister, my MOH, is wearing a gorgeous dress that's not a bridesmaid's dress, it's really a more casual wedding dress, or a second wedding dress (it's tea length) but she's having it dyed navy. So it can be done, depends on the dress. What's the dress and where did she get it?

Re: mom's dress (kinda long)
thanks for your opinions everyone! i feel a little better now
my mom's dress is actually in one of my albums, shown in blue. it only comes in the ivory, the blue (my mom does NOT look good in that color blue) and chocolate brown, which is the color of my BM dresses. she's thinking about having it dyed, but it's an interesting satin that i don't think can be dyed. her other issue is that she originally wanted to wear green, but so does my FMIL. since my mom ended up buying a dress that wasn't green, she told my FMIL that she was free to buy a green dress and now doesn't want to tell her, sorry, I've decided to get green again. I'm just hoping that in the end, FMIL can't find a green dress she likes and my Mom can get this one dyed green. i just feel like such a jerk because she was SO EXCITED about this dress and my mom NEVER gets excited about clothes. oh well. at least i feel better knowing i'm not being mean.
