Moms - keep careful records of immunizations!
Just wanted to post a little advice and a small warning. Please keep careful records of your child's immunizations and carry it with you to each and EVERY doctor visit - regardless of it being a 'well-baby' visit or a sick visit.
Today, Paul's pediatrician was about to administer 1 dose too many of the Hepatitis B vaccine. For some reason, it didn't sound right to me, so I questioned it. The nurse looked back through his chart and said, Yes, he had the first dose on January 24th, 2003. He's due for the second one now.
I persisted b/c this still wasn't sitting right. I took out his immunization record and pointed out that Paul actually received the first dose in May 2002, less than 48 hours after his birth. His second dose was about a month later, in June 2002. Sooooo, the dose he was given in NY in January was actually the THIRD and FINAL dose that was required for this disease and yet, the doctor's office was convinced they were right.
The problem was they were going strictly by their own records and not the records that were sent by Paul's doctors in California. I am SO GLAD that I was paying attention. I don't think that the extra dose would have been harmful, but why should he get another needle if it's not necessary????![]()
