When you went in the hospital the night before, did DH stay with you, or did he go home and come back in the am when the doctor arrived?
I go in Monday night at 6:45, and want DH to go home after a few hours so that he'll get a good night's sleep, and be back in the am when the doctor arrives. He doesn't want to leave me.
Thanks!

Re: Moms who were induced
Thats exactly what we did.
I was in my room around 7:30pm and settled, the Dr. came inserted the Cervidil and that was it. DH stuck around til about 9:30 or 10 then went home to get some sleep. After the 10 O'clock news I went to sleep anyway!
The Dr. told him to come back around 8am and if anything happened during the night they would call him. Lets just say we both had a good nights sleep! \
This is what he did for the next three nights too. Its what worked for us.

Re: Moms who were induced
My water broke at at 2:00 am. The doctor had me stay home until 8:00 am unless I started labor. By 10:00 she inserted the cervidal. At first it didn't seem to be doing much then by 2:30-3:00 my labor was intense. The doctor said if I wasn't progressing they were going to move me to the reg. room or I could opt to go home. Needless to say I didn't go anywhere...I had an epidural at around 3:30. It worked too well...I couldn't feel anything and had a tough time pushing. So we waited for it to wear off and I had her at 5:10. Relatively easy delivery. I was lucky!

My husband stayed with me in the hospital. I couldn't sleep well, but not because of him, because of all the monitors. When I would move slightly, the nurse had to come in and fix it. I was happy to have him there.

Thanks! He made me feel like a jerk for not wanting him there. I thought I was supposed to be the overly sensitive one right now. LOL.

Re: Moms who were induced
I checked in at 3:30 and they started Potocin and atniboptics.. This was 6 pm.. my Dh and both sets of parents were in the room untill midnight and then they were kicked out because i was getting my epidural and Dh stayed the whole night with me and woke up everytime I was examined bt the Dr. I was lucky he stayed the whole night because Jillian was born at 6:37 the next morning.....I actually packed a bag for me and him for the hospital...

Personally I would want DH to stay with me...because you never know what can happen and when.

Re: Moms who were induced
Also, you should question WHY you are being induced and how you are being induced...there are different ways to get induced that can help you control pain MUCH better as well be a bit more natural. Induction throws your body into a very unnatural state of labor quickly so you have a higher rate of c/s and a higher rate of needing pain medications.

Re: Moms who were induced
My DH went home at about 9 ( I was given the cervadil at about 7) and by 4 am I had an epidural and by 6 am my water had broken, and I had to have an internal iv flush b/c of meconium, the iv drip with pitocin, and I had to wear an oxygen mask. When DH came back at about 8 or 9 the next morning, I looked totally different than when he left. It freaked him out a little. I was glad he wasn't there during the night, he would have just annoyed me.
Edited to say, they would have called him if I was close to having her (we only live 15 min from the hospital)

This is not true for everyone. Both cervidil and the pitocin did not cause me to go into labor, at all.
I'd love to know what percentage I fall in, I'm sure its small. But I can say that was not a fact in my case.

Re: Moms who were induced
It really also depends on WHY you are induced. Sometimes drugs don't work because your body is NOT ready to have the baby yet.

I don't want to get into it, but I have to be induced. This gave us good insight into what might happen, and we decided that DH will stay with me.
Thanks!

Re: Moms who were induced
I just returned from being induced and having our baby boy (Huntington Hospital....WONDERFUL experience)
I went in at 3, they did the gel bit around 4:30 (cer whatever its called). That stayed in all night. I was banned from all food and drinks as of midnight.
Husband had no intention of staying over, but ended up doing just that...we played games, watched TV, and hung out. I was on baby heartrate monitor, contraction monitor and blood pressure watch all night.
6:20/7:00 they removed the gel, broke my water, and began pitocin IV as well as fluid IV....once effacement was 100% and everything else was clear, the contractions started...epidural was given once the contractions got under way, but it didnt work...so they guy had to come back and re-try...that kicked in and I could only feel pressure of the contractions, but not the intense pain I felt prior...pushing started when baby was at +5 (dropped down 100%) (he started at -1%) around 2:15, and he was born at 3:00 exactly.
sorry to ramble, and in light of the above, hope that answered your original question...bottom line, husband ended up staying, but I did send him out in the AM to get bagels for himself and the nursing staff :)
