momzila... in the making?

momzila... in the making?

My mom is financing my wedding so i have not been very pushy or picky about a lot of things because of this. For the most part we have been fair on both sides. the only thing that has been getting dicy is the guest list and invitations...

the guest list started very small about 50 people, but the hall we booked needed 100 so we beefed up the list, now we are at about 140. My mom through this process of adding people started to complain about cost and that we had to keep it reasonable and this and that. FI's side has about 20 people, our combined friends is about 25 people (32 counting the bridal party) and all of the rest are people my mom wanted to invite. She was complaining the whole time that there were her work friends that she wanted to invite but didnt want the list any bigger.... this was back in October/ november. Fast forward to now. I am having my invitations printed up now so we were looking over the guest list, and over the past several months there are a few people FI and I have grown closer to and would like to invite and I havent talked to her yet, because she is still complaining about not inviting her school friends.

When it came to the invitations I had them all worked out and spaced, and wordered and she descides she has to have the Mrs put in front of her name (no big deal) and she was insisting that we add Son of Mr. ___ after my FI's name. but the format of the invite doesnt look right like that. But she wouldnt drop the the issue so I did and gave in.

Now the other day i get an email from her asking me to make mailing lables for the responce envelopes that are addressed to her! I emailed her back asking if there was some communication i missed, I was verifiying that it was still my wedding! Her responce was that since she is hosting it they would 'traditionally' be sent to her.

Is there any way that i can stop this before it starts to snow ball? I feel like its the episode of bridezilla where her mother was insisting that it wasnt her wedding but 'our wedding' (The mom and the daughter) I have so much going on I cant deal with this getting worse. any ideas,

Wow! I am sorry this is happening to you. Can you try to tell your mom that her name is writen on the invitation the way it would imply that she is paying for it but would like the responses sent back to you so you can keep a count? I understand that it is a big expense so she wants to get the credit for it, but if you want to have control over your wedding you should be able to.
Good Luck to you, FH, and momzila!

sit her down and talk to her. Try and tell her what has been bothering you. I hope everything works out o.k.! Good luck!

communicate your feelings in a respectful manner. she's still your mom afterall and they all can be difficult.

Honestly, your mom is right about this.

If she is paying for the wedding, the responses *should* go back to her.

Yup, she is right about that. (My parents aren't financing the whole thing and still insisted they be sent to them... it wasn't worth the battle as I live 10 mins away from them)

However, I think that even if she IS paying for the wedding, it is still YOUR wedding... so there needs to be some give and take. Have you been able to talk to her about this calmly?

Since your mom is being 'difficult' about the wedding - you have to choose your battles with her, otherwise, you will go crazy!
You really should talk with her & explain how you feel (tell her how appreciative you are with all her help - not just financially & you are trying your best to accommodate her) but she also have to understand that it is your wedding & you wanted some things done your way also & she has to respect that. Goodluck!

your mother is technically right about the response cards.
If she is hosting the event they get sent to her. It's tradition. That is not about her trying to steal the spot light from you or anything.
Just ask her not to open them without you.

I'm sorry she's being a pain with the rest of the stuff.

its hard in this situation but you dont want to be pushed into a wedding you dont want...Your wedding should be everything you and FH have wanted and even though mom is footing the bill ..it dosent make it moms day....try to calmly talk to her....or have her watch that bridezillas episode
