MOMZILLA

Ah help, my mom's a momzilla. I'm having everyone submit an A,B,C list and she's adament that everyone on her lists gets invited. I keep trying to tell her it's my wedding and everyone has people they want to invite so I will try to accomodate her but all she says is 'well i'm helping you pay', I almost want to tell her to keep her money.

ugh

It's still early before you have to finalize the list so maybe take a break from her list and revisit in the summer?

if shes helping to pay then you may have to invite most of her people.

hang in there!

Maybe all those people won't show up. I'm having this problem with my grandmother. She wants all her friends to be invited to the wedding. I have to pick my battles and hope that her friends decide that they don't want to come.

i agree with the other girls. Give it some time. I'm sure most of her friends might not even want to go. Are you her first daughter or only daughter getting married? b/c if you are, I can see why she would want to invite the world to her daughters wedding and doesn't mind paying for them.

Ouch! That would be the Number 1 reason why FH and I refuse to accept a single red cent for our wedding. I would just ask for a preliminary list and figure out your budget.. then work it from there. I would also try to hold off from planning certain things for a few months. Everyone is probably suer excited and they'll make you want to cry if you don't have them back off a little.

Good luck!

i have a grandmazilla so i know how you feel trust me when this passes you will be in a better place. just relax and take your time and breath your mom is excited that is why she is being the way she is she is also overwhelmed to because probably when she got married weddings did not cost not as much as they are now.

I have a momzilla too... the longer you plan the better you will get at dealing with her. I have found that small compromises go a loooong way when dealing with my mom.

ohh man good luck! try to hang in there and just answer what makes her happy but you do what YOU think is appropriate...you know negotiate once the final list is done LOL

Unfortunately if she is paying for the wedding you do not have the ability to say that she can not invite her friends. Obviously if the room has a limit you have to stay under that limit but unless the amount of people makes it so you can not have your friends and fh family there you kind of have your hands tied.

Thanks girls.

Yeah, all (and I am thankful for the help) my parents are giving is like 2500 so it basically would pay for the food of all the guests she wants invited and that's it. The only thing that stops me from inviting everyone she wants invited is that her guest list is double mine! and it would only leave FH and his mom like 40 guest.

My A list is 50 people, my mom has 100 people she wants to invite!

Are you and FH paying anything towards the wedding?

In my situation all parents are helping pay for the wedding but FH and I are still by far spending the most so we sat down with the parents and let them know nicely that we really appriciate them wanting to help us have a really nice wedding but their money does not buy them ANY say, its still our day and our wedding which doesnt really work out so well so now we just agree with them, tell them we will take their ideas into consideration and do what we want anyway hahaha.

Yeah, FH and I are paying mostly all, except the 2,500 my parents are giving me. His brother is getting married in June, so FH's mom is putting all her money towards that wedding.

Good luck with this!!!

My parents list was pretty long at first and I didn't have any qualms because they are paying for it, but I think once they realized what a big wedding will cost they widdled down their list on their own! Try laying out the numbers for her and talk to her about budget maybe she'll realize that it's not necessary to have everyone on her list included anymore.

oh moms :)

$2500? That's it? I mean.. that's a good amount of money, but it might not be worth it. To be honest... I was offered about 10k towards my wedding and I said no just because at the end of the day you honestly want to be able to say NO. It will add up to a lot more yes's and she'll ask you for this and that her way just because she's putting in that money. It will most likely cost you double. That's JMO though.. I'm compromising on things, but only to what I want and so far everyone seems happy because they know it's not costing them 1 red cent to get things like Parent Albums
