~*~*MONDAY 8/3/09 QOTD (MY FIRST)~*~*

Happy Monday! Congratulations to all this past weekend's brides!

First I want to thank Cindy for passing the BOTW baton on..,.

Now here's my first question.

Do you think you're brave? If so, what's the bravest thing you've ever done?

I think I'm very brave. I called off an engagement years ago that wasn't right - and that takes guts.

But I think the bravest thing I ever did was go on vacation by myself. I went on a windjammer 'singles' cruise of the Caribbean for a week. I didn't know anyone else and was terrified, but it turned out to be one of the best vacations I ever had!

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more. - Erica Jong

Yes, I consider myslef VERY brave.

I have learned that I can stand up to people and I dont aviod conflict.

Its a very brave thing to realize that you are being a dormat and avoiding conflict and change that. I will never avoid conflict because im scared of what might happen. Or scared of the OTHER ersons feelings (liek not confronting a co-worker that steals my ideas at work, or telling a wedding guest NO, you cant bring a date)

That was life changing for me.

And I also stand up for myslef even when its not a popular opinion. As a kid a was teased MERCILESSLY. It took me untill the past few yeasr to realize I CAN stand up for myslef and take an unpopular stand If I think im right.

As women we should always stand up for ourselves and we should NEVER EVER be doormats.

I think I am brave in the sense that I will do just about anything that sounds/looks fun.. but I am not brave when it comes to sticking up for myself. I am a push over! and I am working on that!!

I think I am somewhat brave. I was living with a boyfriend of 3 years and things just were not going well. I figured I either had to marry him or break up with him and I really didn't want to marry him. I loved him, but I knew that if I broke up with him he'd never speak to me again...it was really hard. I broke up with him and he hated my guts...I had to move all the stuff out of our apt, break our lease all while he was being absolutely horrifically mean to me.

But I did it and now I get to marry FH instead!

I think that's very brave because I'm terrified of heights! It's not so much the height as the fear of falling so bungee jumping would give me a heart attack.

I love people who are brave and would do anything! I feel like I need to work on that more.

Nope, I'm a big chicken.

Although I have been getting better recently - and actually I think the wedding has really helped with that. I assumed that I would have been the most nervous in my life on our wedding day, but I was fine! And knowing that I was able to get through that has given me more confidence. I even went ziplining on our HM, something I normally would NEVER do!

I think I am brave but I would also use the word strong. There are def some situations where I just don't want to deal with a confrontation so I just let it go but then there are those situations where you just can't let it go and those are the ones that make us brave.

I think that my strength has allowed me to become the person I am today and has helped me get through so many difficult situations. I look at it this way...you have the choice to either accept it and move forward or not accept it and allow it to affect the rest of your life. Somethings are a lot easier to accept than others but that is life and no one ever said life is easy.

ooh hard question. . I often think I am brave but feel that sometimes I'm not. . I have travelled by myself a bit and also feel like that's brave. . used to do stand-up comedy and that's pretty brave bc you are just at any moment at the mercy of the audience. . and then a bunch or personal stuff that i won' write about but really standing up for myself which SURE takes work. . sure there must be other things too!

I am and I'm not...I used to be more of a daredevil when I was younger, like with roller coasters and stuff, but as I've gotten older and had more to lose, I stopped. FH has really wussed me out in that respect LOL.

I am pretty fearless when it comes to performance, public speaking, etc. Sometimes I can be all bark and no bite, but when it comes to presentations and stuff I don't have a problem with it at all.

I love hearing other people's tales of bravery. It makes me realize what I still need to work on to become the person I want to be and how far I've come.

Thanks for all your inspiration ladies!!!! This site has inspired me in ways far beyond wedding planning.

to you all for that!

Gina - the only heart issue I can imagine you having is that yours is too big!

Ziplining = Brave.

You are NOT a big chicken!

Re: ~*~*MONDAY 8/3/09 QOTD (MY FIRST)~*~*

I'm crashing 'cause this question is a good one

I think I'm pretty brave. I went on vacation alone when I was 19 and following a band around the country and a friend completely bailed on me last minute. I didn't even think twice about it, I was just like 'screw you, I'm still going!' and met a lot of great people along the way, a couple of whom I am still in occasional contact with.

My parents also always encouraged me to stand on my own two feet when it came to my ethical beliefs and lifestyle - which is my own thing; my parents didn't raise me to be an animal-rights activist, but when they saw that the issue was one that I was passionate about, they encouraged me to persue it as a lifestyle choice. Highly unpopular to be a little activist at the age of 12; it made me apply (and was accepted!) to a specialized high school in Manhattan where people were more in tune to my way of thought (High School for Environmental Studies).

People also make a lot of comments about me being brave because I'm a single woman who lives on her own. I never really understand that, because if I was a single man living on my own, would people fawn over that? It's just how I choose to live until FH and I are married.
